Great job! But how about growing vegetables in this environment? Is the plastic, PVC etc. harmful for the vegetables when heated up by the sun (chemicals) ?
This is a great idea but I have only one complaint: PVC is not organic, it's not even 'green'. It's made of many chemicals, the process of which is very harmful to our environment & doesn't degrade or decompose. I realize the fact that it doesn't degrade is the very reason so many use it, but is it really a good thing to continue to support the manufacturers of toxins? Isn't one of the ideas of organic gardening to live 'green' & avoid these chemicals & their products?
@oneblinddog Pvc does decompose just not as fast as organic material would. The chemicals used to produce pvc are reused or reduced to safer ones. There are many things with far worse impacts on the environment than pvc. Such as buying goods from other countries that use coal powered factories and dump toxic waste into rivers. You talk alot about organic, and not supporting manufacturers of toxins yet your using a computer which probably required acids and carcinogenic solvents to make.

I have been wondering how to get the dome shape and want to build a green house with a dome shaped top on it and now I have the answer. PVC pipe. Thank you very much. This is wonderful.
i've never really understood why people grow plants in greehouses. Where in nature does a plant grow in a greenhouse. plants can just use other plants for shade and protection. It seems pointless using plastic for growing plants when all they need is soil in the ground
I'm not a gardner myself. From what I understand, (anyone can correct me if i'm wrong) you don't really need a greenhouse in spring or summer, but it's essential to have one in the winter. The cold, snow and the frost tends to kill your garden. So in order for your plants to survive, you need a greenhouse, at least in the winter.
if its a sealed greenhouse that has a air conditioner you can supply supplemental co2 and increase plant vigor and fruit size up to 30%
if you water your own plants, rain is useless and can be seriously detrimental to a plants health and slow it down greatly, on top of it screwing with your own water/feed program.
it also keep out bugs mites and mold spores that otherwise MIGHT be floating through the air, also when going for a sensimellia crop it keeps pollen out

Like this video, in central Texas we don't need a green house except on a few cold nights. But the having the hoops ready & a drop cloth is a great idea.
But wouldn't leaving it open & putting staples through your dropcloth allow bad bugs and wild animals to get in?
I was thinking about making a full size greenhouse using those pipes, though. I want to be able to walk into it. For growing things out of season. Would dropcloth work on a full size green house?
Your pipe will degrade from exposure in the sun light so take a min to paint them and they will last a lot longer than average. I wonder if you could add an irregation pipe to the center of the GH so you could water the plants simply by opening the hose for a prescibed period.
we use 1/2" diameter rebar in the ground to put the ends of the 1/2" pipe over. Works great for all ground/soil types. Makes the frame sturdy as heck. We tried the directly into the ground method with no luck. Don't go cheap on the plastic! Spend more to start to save money down the road.
awesome...i'm really thinkin about doin this for the beginning of the winter/fall. are you able to leave this up all yr round. i live in indiana & the winters get bitter cold. you shoulda mentioned something about how to water it durring that time & what climates are suitable for this setup.
