@kingkay25 Pretty sure the holes are just big enough for the female to swim through, lay her eggs on 1 side and escape the males brutal wrath. Trust me, it's 100% needed in most situations. Other people I know who breed, they completely remove the female from the tank until they're ready to try breeding again.
Jags have attitudes, but NOTHING like a dovii. And dovii have huge teeth. I think the largest out of any cichlid.
@kingkay25 So I got a divider in my dovii tank just like this. Females don't grow fast, or that large. So you can easily keep the big bulky male to 1 side of the tank.
I can assure you that the fish is 100% disease free. He's alive and well and breeding like crazy. I've kept CA cichlids for over thirty years, familiar with the disease you mentioned. He doesn't have it.
Is the female the lighter one? I think I have a female Jag and a female Oscar. The Jag tries to lip lock the Oscar even though the Oscar is 4 times it's size. Seems like shes trying to mate or just being aggresive to another female. I can't figure it out.
I have a breeding pair or jags I just wanted to know why do u have the divders with holes big enough for the parents to swim though ?

Is there a LFS That anyone knows like in southern california that has fry like the one shown? If so, how much would they cost each?

The is National Geographic level footage. thanks for capturing this behavior on film and sharing it with fellow cichlid enthusiasts.

Excellent video. Thank you for that - definitelly 10/10.
1. It seemed more like parents were eating some of their young - some of young seemed to disappear after closing parents' mouth.
2. Ive heard of such behaviour among central American cichlids - similar to discus fish - but now I see it is true.
Keep up the good job.
