Nice Video That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You Self Organization of vertical magnetic dipoles floating on water.The regular checker-board pattern is disassembled in the beginning
Atoms self assemble into molecules. Molecules self assemble into compounds. Compounds self assemble into amino acids which in turn form proteins...life shortly follows.. So what is life then? If atoms self-assemble, aren't they "alive"..? Well, they can self-assemble, but can they make copies of themselves? Not until you get to the complexity necessary to store info do we get reproduction. The only Gods necessary for it all were the weak and strong nuclear forces, gravity and electromagnetism.
I was just thinking of a similar experiment using water to nulify the effects of gravity also, in regards to the clumping of matter. This experiment is exactly the type of thing I was looking for.
in space matter clumps togther, but in the prescence of strong gravity (like a blackhole) it gets stripped apart.
Is the weight of a molecule directly proportional to its constituent parts, or is there a change. And if so what is this attributed to.
The beauty in this is the simplicity of this system. Based on the natural properties of the elements and forces in this experiment you can get organization from inanimate materials! It's not a huge leap to speculate that nature tends to open and close patterns of change as 'energy', materials. forces and time are available.
I believe the reason the experimenter has to "help" the tee lights is that at certain points a local minima has been reached and the energy is at it's lowest point for that particular pattern of organization. A little push, adding energy to the system, changes the energy topology of the experiment and the system is forced to self re-organize. So yes, it is self organizing in terms of the energy/geometry topologies. Again, very good experiment.
i know i'm nit picking, but if this was 'self' organisation, then there would be no need for any outside assistance. but since there is outside help, why is this video called 'self organisation'?? shouldnt it be called something like 'partial self organisation'? or 'mostly self organisation, but a little help from the guy filming every now and then' instead? ha ha ha
In the water basin there are cups from tea lights with small magnets which are oriented vertically with the blue marking plate for north pole up and red for north pole down. They attract each other to form the checker-board pattern.
The white blocks on the outside of the basin are also vertically oriented magnets. They attract the cups with the corresponding orientation so that they get sorted to the sides. One should have given them the colours red and blue accordingly.

great idea to visualize the self organization. Maybe someday i'll use this. Thanks

The touching is just as I have a certain view of the result, but the system is so "selfish organized" that it wants to put its own view through. :o)

@ChemicalMikeUK
The influence is not outside but an actual part of the system (according to second order cybernetics).
