This break and solo were transcribed into a big band arrangement, which led off a high school Battle of the bands at the Hollywood Bowl I played in, 1963. Helped our band win it, no doubt! We started with it, swinging around on the stage's turntable floor. Wonder if they still have that. I was on Bari sax for that gig. Later that evening three of us played at Shelly's Manne Hole in Hollywood, got to improvise on my alto sax there. Met the manager who had known Bird personally.
