It always bugged me how the self-destruct sequence doesn't totally destroy the ship, especially after such a big explosion. I coulda sworn the deflector would have been vaporized but you can see it in tact when it passes.
@priyonjoni Actually I saw a model of the deflector, and it was badly cracked. But what bugged me was that there were several ways to save the Enterprise-D. Shut down the warp core. But if it couldn't be shut down, cut off the antimatter supply. No antimatter to the reactor, no boom. And if that fails, eject the core. And if that fails, jettison the antimatter. It would make sense to begin saucer separation just in case, but all those failures before saucer separation?
@Potrimpo There's alot of shit in Star Trek that don't make sense. Take First Contact for example. Why did the borg cube have to go to Earth during present time and be attacked by all those Federation starships when it could just time travel a safe distance from Earth then attack the Pheonix base easily with no defense.
@priyonjoni First Contact makes perfect scene if you can think like a machine. This was the Borg's second attempted to assimilate humanity. 1 cube almost worked the last time and the number of cubs would not have made a difference last time Lacutes would have powered down all the ships. "One jumps off a cliff they all jump off?" Riker "BoBW". In “First Contact” the Federation did not have access to the collective. It’s only logical to try the same strategy again when circumstances are different.
@priyonjoni Please ignore Potrimpo he is just does not understand Star Trek Science. The reason the self destruct does not totally destroy the ship is for safety. If escape pods were still in range it would vaporize those pods. In orbit of a planet it would destroy the planet. "Your ship will go up like an exploding sun" Kahn in Space Seed. As for Generations you have to refer to the show to fill in that little plot hole, Season 2 Episode 11.
Good work, this also shows why ships are personalized (e.g. they are called "she").
I thought that the humor highlight of that mediocre Star Trek 7 movie was where Data says "Ohhhhh shit." He was still adjusting, naively, to emotions with the new emotion chip. It was a reaction a naive 21st century person may have had after seeing all hell was about to break loose and not being able to stop it.

@Potrimpo The explanation is simple: Enterprise D LOOKED LIKE SHIT ON THE BIG SCREEN and they NEEDED A REASON TO DESIGN A NEW SHIP.
Just like the reason the TOS Klingons looked ifferent from TNG Klingons, THEY HAD A BIGGER BUDGET.
STAR TREK ISN' T REAL. It DOESN'T HAVE TO MAKE "SENSE".
