Metallica's first 3 albums were 3 of the best albums of all time. I thank them for this. In my opinion everything after that was a bonus. They are a creative force like no other. Of course they change but they always give 100 percent and play kick ass music. I have seen every tour since Master of Puppets and they never let me down..so to all you fucks that are to cool to like anything that is not played at 500 mph go find another band, quit complaining let's see what kind of cd u can create.

This version of 2X4 is so much better then the album version. I have no idea why Metallica changed it? This version is more heavier with the faster tempo. The way the song was slowed down on album sucks. Also the guitar solo in this version is awesome! The one on the album, well, just sucks.

It is so raw and full of emotion, to me that makes it a great album. I love them all from Hit the Lights through My Apocalypse. Metallica is what metal always was and always will be.

Sure they weren't legendary albums, and sure, they weren't metal, but if you can't appreciate the artistic quality and attitude behind the 'load albums, then I feel sorry for you and your ability to enjoy only one type of music.
Had they been released in a time period that suited them (as Metallica's thrash material did), they would have been regarded as legendary. As it stands, the 90's weren't a time when people were looking for a blues/metal hybrid. They're still brilliant albums.

Reload has far better riffs than Load.. Their worst album, unfortunately, is Load.. Reload is different, it's kinda awesome.. Memory Remains, Unforgiven II, Carpe Diem, Prince Charming, Fuel, FiXXXer.. Awesome tunes..
@bjmzc I'm gonna have to disagree with you on "Unforgiven II". There really wasn't much in common between 1 and 2, plus the country tangent in the middle just ruined it for me. It just didn't come close to the original in terms of epicness. The rest of the songs you mentioned though.....I'm completely in agreeance with you on each one of them. I also liked "Bad Seed".

well there was another reason and it wasn't just the james getting older part of it... when bob rock was first introduced as there producer 1 critisisum he had was everything was very E based. hence the different tunings.. the half step down was to bring there older material in line with there present tunings. (see many tallica documentrys)
Well the black album (when Bob came in) was in recorded in normal tuning!!! Bob talked about he was trying to make James write songs in a different key than E. I personally think that it would be very hard for James to sing everything from the early days in normal E, because he sang some really high notes in kill em allm and Ride... Hit the lights:)

As you get old your voice gets deeper. They tune their guitars 1/2 step down so they fit with James voice now...

I think because its easier for James to sing 1/2 step down. Since he hurt his voice way back when.

1: It's not D, its E flat

well there was another reason and it wasn't just the james getting older part of it... when bob rock was first introduced as there producer 1 critisisum he had was everything was very E based. hence the different tunings.. the half step down was to bring there older material in line with there present tunings. (see many tallica documentrys)

Well the black album (when Bob came in) was in recorded in normal tuning!!! Bob talked about he was trying to make James write songs in a different key than E. I personally think that it would be very hard for James to sing everything from the early days in normal E, because he sang some really high notes in kill em allm and Ride... Hit the lights:)

in the black album i belive all is in e standard, except for sad but true which is in D standard and the god that failed in Eb standard.
