what do u mean when u shoot at wide open aperture, and Slower shutter speed the flash does not have to put out so much power? u shouldve explained instead that u shot at a slower shutterspeed ( say 1/60 ) in order to get the ambient light u desire ( from the window ) since shutterspeed will not affect the "power" or intensity of the flash output, then shoot wide open aperture to get ur shallow DOF plus able to stop down ur flash power to correct exposure since narrow OR wide open apertures does
This is a great video, do you happen to have any pointers for about what power to set the strobe to against the aperture of the lens, so you don't need to keep blinding your model while you figure it out?
In this case, I am using TTL. At any power, the light is very bright. That is just the nature of strobes. The diffuser helps. An alternative is to use an umbrella or softbox, but it is still going to be bright. By shooting wide open, and at a slow shutter speed, is that the flash does not have to put out so much power.
@xppower2001 Sorry, but you are mistaken. The lighting is as I described it. Ambient light consists of the sunlight coming through the window, the speedlight, and the reflector -- that's it.
1. The pop-up is not a "countunius" :-) light source.
2. On a Nikon, the pop-up can be set to not contribute to the exposure calculation -- I mention this at about 1:50 +/-. It is used ONLY to send an IR signal to the remote units. Unless you are within inches of the subject, there will be no light cast on it.
Are u holding her against her will ?......

It's not really one light, you already have at least one countunius light turn on.
