I would imagine Frankie Lymon would be mighty proud that she did credit to his version of this song. Consider that Pearl was singing live. She complemented the other members of the group superbly. I have heard many versions of this song, and pearl is a match for the best of them.
Pearl was (is?) superb doing Frankie's songs. Some people seem to think that the Teenagers' music should be put into a time capsule and nobody else but Frankie should ever attempt to sing it. As I see it, that's a foolish opinion. After seeing this video that Schrooms has so graciously posted, it you don't think that Pearl's version is top-notch and thouroughly professional, I'm at a loss for words.
I also think Frankie did it better. But Pearl voice is as good as Frankie's one to me. Different flowing and dynamism, but for the voice itself I think one can't tell one from other most of time. Just an opinion, what do you think?

Actually, non-facetiously, torch singer Ruth Etting had a big hit in the 20s with this ballad of love-lorn desertion. I'd love to get your comment on my version of it (blinkymyt)as it was originally portrayed in its original torchy mode. A whole lot different from its current sound. Cordially, John

Pearl has/had the BEST female voice of the 50's and 60's. Is she still performing? I would love to see/hear her in person. Pearl, you are wonderful.
