Perhaps an interesting question would be: Do they now also take digital photographs of their "temporary" sand mandalas in order to preserve them or would that defeat the purpose of the mandalas' transitory nature?

things aren't so cut and dry. photo, no photo, its still impermenant, so is the photo itself. transitory nature applies to everything. the sand mandalas are also very profound other than the transitory nature. thats just my opinion not a representation of buddhism

When the Dalai Lama is on vacation from all his hollywood appearance, he would relax and wear his Prada slipper.
When the Pope is relaxing, he would wear his Gucci sunglasses with sunbathing.
Why can't his followers do the same?
