Well I know for certain burning/god gundam doesn't have a sheild at all not even the traditional one that's metal. I grew up watching g gundam. i've always liekd the look of the rigona gundam (rx 78-2), shining, burning, the origonal wing. I hate some of the new looks for newer ones. like the 00 ones all don't even look liek gundams to me they look like a giant robot the only remaining trade marks are the V fin and red chin beard thing if that's even red.

@AshsaberElda sadly no, the original RX-78-2 is pretty bloody strong MS, the beam rifle that used is warship cannon powered, not standard beam that used by gelgoogs and GMs,
also in addition RX-78-2 pretty much received upgrade, in novelisation version, Amuro late RX-78-2 is pretty mix upgrade between NT-1 and RX-78-3
You should just make one with RX-78 Vs Impulse since Impulse has a Red Shield with a Gold Cross just like RX-78 it also has the core slender being based on the core fighter as well as a blue gold and red torso

@asaqe3 Melee weapons cant hurt Paint Scheme armor, but Chars combination of Char-o-tactics and red mobile suits (which are 10X faster than the others he pilots) are capable of defeating anything.. except Amuro.. cuz he's a hack..
@asaqe3 every weapon can damage the strike if used properly. While PS armor blocks any and all melee/balistic weapons it can't block beam weapons. PS armor doesn't cover the joints so it's possible to just rip off an arm, a leg and even it's head(like the raider did to the freedom, while the PS armor prevented the head itself from being damaged, the force of the impact was to much for the neck).
I bet Char would literaly tear the strike apart, piece by piece.
@kakarot197 no ps damage received damage from melee even its not a beam type(Astray), this where the director(Fukuda) failed his contraditory. PS armour itself has limited how it withstand heavy impact, in some game version bit biased how PS can recharge itself
@Arrakhis I haven't read astray but as far as I know PS armour was never penetrated by a balistic/solid melee(forgot to add that in my comment) weapon in the anime(the tips of the swords of the sword silhouette can also emit a beam). Could you name some scenes?
Fukuda did screw up a world with so many potential, so I wouldn't be surprised if such screw ups were present.
@kakarot197 I do not remember nor posses the manga atm because I am at overseas, you could find it in the manga I think its in either vol 2 or 3, the story is 2-3x better than original SEED, I highly reccomend it

I'll put all Amuro and Kira on Par, more even perhaps Amuro, Kira and Setsuna on par, if they ever make that into a movie, I believe that the scriptwriter will put them all on par, as it is said that all the main protagonists in the anime are the best, and since all of them are the best, they are all on par.
Amuro destroys Coordinator,s like its nothing on a serious note THIS would be awesome if it where ever put in a anime and by that I mean everything redone and the RX-78-2 and Strike Freedom in one picture

Gundam SEED is essentially the first Gundam remade after twenty-odd years.
Considering this fight, I'd say the Strike wins out, thanks to that Phase-Shift armor.

Anyway, there are parts where the editing CAN be tweaked (saw the Duel there a couple times) but overall pretty damn good.
