@cobitech Hardly a day goes by that I don't learn something new. Mostly subtle stuff for me, nowadays. Never be afraid to ask questions. The only stupid question is the the one you're afraid to ask.... because you'll never get an answer.
Great job and video !! As said before, newbies need to learn the sheetmetal and layout and install side as well as repair and service. The one thing I never did and regret to this day. Would love to learn now just to say I did it.
@tstatech You learn a few things along the way when you spend twenty years as an installer. I had a few good 'teachers' in the field. Glad you enjoyed the video.
Nice fix man. Gotta love sheet metal work. I'm interested in why you used a T at the top of the flue. Is it code to tape all your joints. I know where i work they are going to make it a code now.
@dfranklin5891 Manufacturer recommends the tee at the termination so I did it. Local code requires all duct to be sealed. Tape or pookie... your choice. Most everyone seems to like my sheet metal work!
@V8Jagnut I don't know about capital punishment (death). Corporal punishment would be acceptable. Take that installer out to the parking lot and beat him like a bad dog!
Do a video or 3 on how to make up those sheet metal transitions .I have a hard time making that stuff up .I cant find many videos on HVAC sheet metal .If you could make one on just the basics it would be great. Great video ,Great work !
@jenko701 Most of this stuff is basic geometry. The angles figure themselves out during the layout process. It's not hard to do. Any idiot like me can do it.
@dizziedallas It's hard for a company to get referrals from original installation work like that. I think my roofing and sheet metal work should be considered standard for the industry.
Awesome cleanup. Curious as to the nature of the original call. Was it the a/c drainpan dripping? How long had the furnace been in, and how much time did you end up with doing the repairs...looks like several hours, if not most of a day.
@FilterChanger The original need for the call was due to the drain pan leaking. The furnace was installed about 3 months ago. I estimated 3-4 hours for all of the work. I was in and outta there in 3 1/2 hours. Quality work takes time. I'm not the fastest thinker.
@PutSome5tankOnIt YOU did a great job. I just hope whoever put in the furnace picks up about $300-$400 of the bill. Original jobber must be one of those people who is always finishing your sentences, or works for Nike (just DO it)...Sometimes things need to be thought out first. ;)
I just don't understand why they don't just install a matching cased cooling coil on the furnaces, unless only Lennox offers that arrangement. Just match up the furnace width with the matching width coil and it just bolts right on. No field sheet metal, no extra tape, and it looks nice.
@eggman9713 As far as I know, it was just a furnace replacement. Different brand of furnace than the evaporator. Regardless, any installer should be able to neatly transition from one manufacturer's dimensions to another.
Another great video! The transition you made was amazing. It would be awesome if you could show some videos on sheet metal. I love watching these videos and seeing someone take pride in there work. Keep on doing what your doing.
@mazzmari I don't do as much sheet metal work as I did when I was an installer. If that's what the guys want to see, I'll do my best to show more metal work.
@yrulooknatme Combustion air for this system comes from the attic. I would've just drawn it from the closet. Fifteen years ago, 90%'ers had to draw from the same barometric environment as the flue. Newer condensating furnaces (especially Amana/Goodman) have monster inducers and pressure switches (rated at less than -1"WC) that allow for single pipe venting. Very convenient for retrofit applications. That was a decent field fab. I like showing off my sheet metal skills.
I don't no where to start , well with you 5tank !!! Outsanding Professionalism at its BEST !!! Look what a skilled man can do, in a reasonable amount of time without cutting corners !!! Dude you took pure SHIT , and turned it into a MASTER PIECE !!! I'm surpised I didn't see a card board plenum ,with insulation covered in CHROME TAPE... LOL
What hack installed that.

shouldn't the cap have two elbows to prevent rain from entering the vent? that's what we did at least.
nothing like getting a job done the right way.
SteezyProductionInc 1 year ago
@SteezyProductionInc It's ok for rain to enter the vent. It's connected to the condensate collection/removal system.

If only you were closer to my area... You could teach the guys that installed my furnace to do it right!

@Maxxarcade Maybe so. The problem is that most guys won't work with me, much less be willing to learn anything I can teach them.

Dude, What a repair Job!!
Awesome Work, on the vent and roofing. Your Sheet Metal Skill is top notch doing those bends in the field with out a sheet metal break.
Your plenum transition looks as if you order it from shop or made at a shop.
Great Job Dude
Thx for the video on how a professional HVAC tech does his work
