@buddywayneauthor You don't really need it with digital cable (does analog still exist) most systems have a built in guide you can browse, and you can view stuff up to a week ahead as well usually.
CableVision in my market used this graphic, but without any video on the top portion, and they played the weather forcast. Much more helpful than TV Guide channel and all of that.
Before 1990, they would play instrumentals and muzak, a lot of which was pretty good, and would make you yearn for the Prevue Guide continuity. One of my all time favorites to hear on Prevue was Herb Alpert's "Route 101".
Then in 1990, BAM! -- 24 hour "Prevue Tonight" theme. Those were the DAYS, I tell ya!
ahh the good old days, we had the same thing in the late 80s and early 90s in a DC suburb. Those were the stress free innocent days, no worry days. Wish I had a time machine.
@actny99 Media General (now Cox) in Fairfax had this same thing, but without that same music all the time. (Running to the bathroom for a Q-Tip to get that earworm out)
It's funny, I used to watch the Prevue Channel all the time and I always thought it was called The TV Guide Channel, but apparently it wasn't called that until like 1999.
What an addicting mesmerizing song this was. I LOVED Prevue Guide and Sneak Prevue back in the 90s. As a small child, with the exception of a few shows, I'd watch this for hours a day. I was so fascinated by it. I had COX cable way back and when I'd go to my grandparents house which had TCI (now ComCast) I had to watch it there to see the difference between the cable company channel lineups. A fond memory for me to hold for the rest of my life.
I think a resurrection of the Prevue Guide is needed. It doesn't matter if it has to be cable/satellite, or on high-speed internet, I would love to have this back!
I remeber Preview Guide then it became the Tv Guild channel but before that it was called Preview choice or something. Man brings back memoryies when Charter/Crown had it on ch. 3 in my area.
This reminds me of the first week my grandparents got cable back in 1992.That Prevue Channel music really enthralled me for some reason-even invented a silly dance to go with it.I felt a little like Carlton from 'Fresh Prince Of Bel Air' lol
If you pause at 0:27, and look at cable channel 41's program listing (which is the old Prevue Guide listing), it says: "41-EPG ELECTRONIC PROGRAM GUIDE CONT." instead of "41-PREV PREVUE GUIDE CONT." I'm guessing that's a computer glitch. When the EPG was still around, the grid filled up the intire screen and would have live audio playing from a local FM radio station and the graffics looked the same. I heard it used to be powered by an Amgia Computer.
Not sure if you're a hockey fan but, back then, when the Hartford Whalers were around, and I'm assuming you were in the Boston Bruins market too, could you watch the Whalers games? Or would the Whalers games get blacked out?
Does the smaller cable companys still use that version for the TV Guide Channel? The Preview Channel was renamed to what's now the TV Guide in 1999. By the way, is the program grid is made by the same company like the WeatherSTAR used on The Weather Channel to display the local forcast?
Haha, other Prevue Guide afficianados. I used to stay glued to that as a kid in the late 80s/early 90s. Weird how the old theme just comes back to you. And yes, true about system malfunctions, when the matrix would jack up.
I'll have to load the little ID's when they'd have a guy rapping or the twin nerds who loved PG for different reasons, lmaooo!
TV Guide Channel may have the same basic format as Prevue Guide, but Prevue had that really cool synthesizer music, and system malfunctions at times. I didn't catch anything interesting on tape back in 1993 when I tried to record it. :(
Good catch! I don't believe that this is an error. This is the Hopkinton, MA lineup. I don't know why the cable provider didn't have WGBH but in addition to WENH, I see WSBE and WGBX. Interesting!
Oh, this brings back memories! I used to watch Prevue Guide for unhealthy amounts of time back in the day. :)

"Prevue Guide...We ARE What's On!"
I remember this music when they had the rundown of the best shows/movies at the top and bottom of each hour. Good memories for sure.

I like this music; it brings back memories for me. This music sounds like the theme from the TV show "Fight Back!™ With David Horowitz."

that could be an error on the scrolling grid there,It supposed to be PREVUE GUIDE CONT.,not EPG CONT.

It's probably the same thing. After all, Prevue Guide is an Electronic Program Guide, just like it says.
