The yugoslavian team presented here was not much different in quality than the USA. This team was made of young players at the time, I think under-19. Beside Kukoc, Radja, Divac and Djordjevic, 5 or 6 of them never made the first yugoslavian team in the following years. So, it was a fair game.
...reason that the former yugoslav republics, now that they are impoverished. will ever be as good at european group sports as they were in the last 50-60 years...which is too bad because there were also other things that the rest of europe could learn from us...like how catholic and orthodox cristians live together with muslims, and play on the same team, winning not because they are stronger or jump higher, but because they understand and know how to pass. sharing is learned from a young age_

@dzonikg who gives a damn about them, I'm just saying there is no Yugoslav nation. it was just a country formed by several different nations such as croats serbs etc.
@dzonikg I call it Yugoslavia against USA. I hope you understand what I'm saying. not nation but country Yugoslavia. So it is Yu - greatest basketball country with al those famous names like Kukoc, Divac, Petrovic...
@xyoop hahahahhahah I mean, they clearly are not the greatest basketball country. Good but not close to the U.S. Just look at the team they played against? Only two of the U.S. players on this squad even had good NBA careers. The US has proved that when they field their best team they are unbeatable. Look at the dream team and the last Olympics, they don't just beat teams, they humiliate them.
@brittyboy3 The jugoslavian team presented here was not much different in quality than the USA as you mentioned. This team was made of young players at the time, I think under-19. Beside Kukoc, Radja, Divac and Djordjevic, 5 or 6 of them never made the first Jugoslavian team in the following years.
@labosh33gost Kukoc and Divac are the most recognizable yugoslavian basketball names EVER to most Americans (should have been Petrovic too). So they're fielding the 2 players who would go on to have the best NBA careers of any Yugoslavians, ever. The Americans: Gary Payton (a hall of famer), Larry Johnson (Always good, never great), Stacey Augmon (Decidedly Average) and a bunch of fuckin scrubs. Tell me what Yugoslavia would have done against jordan, bird, magic, kareem, isaiah, etc.. in '87?
@brittyboy3 Lose the game... definetely. But a country as it was Yugoslavia at the time, with its population of 20 millions people can not be comparable the quality of USA players . I'm not questioning the prowess of N.B.A. players, especially from the end 80's era, I'm just saying that this team was not a Yugoslavian dream team at the time.
@xyoop Ya man, those guys were so much better than jordan, bird, magic, wilt, kareem, russell, big O, barkley, the admiral, both malones, jerry west, elgin baylor... Alright I'm bored, but hopefully you'll shut the fuck up next time you even think about saying any country besides the United States is the greatest basketball nation.
@brittyboy3 I talked about terms nation vs country, and not about USA vs ex-Yugoslavia. It would be ridiculous to say that there is/were better team then USA (especially then original Dream Team Croatia played at Olympic games in Barcelona). I was saying that country doesn't equal nation! You missed my point. Nation: Croatia, Serbia, Slovenia etc, country - Yugoslavia...
Get over what? Shut the fuck up. Your point is invalid. There was a team Yugoslavia and they dominated. Team consisting of Bosnians, Croats, Serbs, Slovenians etc.
@xyoop you can take that this way too,Croats and Serbs were just part of the mother Slav tribe. Then they divided. So they all are Slavs in it's essence.Croats and Serbs are just artificial names for some Slavs. So being either Croat or Serb is as artificial as being a Yugoslav or whatever name they choose.
european players dont dribble too much like iverson, paul, marbury or whoever they call god of crossovers in the nba...their moves are so basic yet very effective..
@anubseranyan i didnt watch him much as i was a huge bull fan and still am. watching videos of drazen i can see why people say hes the goat but i think had toni played for any other team then the bulls his stats would be higher
Americans need to see Tony scoring 30 or 40 points to say "oh yea he was great, he played like a brother" or something. Europeans know that Tonys team could not have been beaten! He didnt need to score a single point to be the best man on the court. Look at 98 ecf vs indiana game 7, Tony made that championship not pippen not rodman but TONY! Statistics never ment anything to him, winning and entertaining was his game. And when you count the titles no one in the world cant stand with Tony Kukoc!
If Yogoslavia didnt fall apart..stupid Americans would suck in basketball...Kukoč,Radja,Petrović;Divac,Đorđević,Paspalj,Rebraća,Perasović,Komazec,Danilović....European players have brain...Americans are only strong...nothing more...they dont have tactics and discipline, they love to play solo, for their own statistics...learn basketball from Croatia,Serbia,France,Spain,Lithuania,Russia,Italy...stupid Americans!!!
@malacka17 And how often do the "stupid Americans" beat these teams? Almost every time. Hmmm, maybe we just might know what we are doing. I do find it interesting that the racist idea that American players (meaning black players) can only jump and run, playing without any intelligence, is still acceptable in many parts of Europe. Most Americans stopped those racist ideas a long time ago.
It says it all that he was the bulls 3rd highest scorer and for the most part came off the bench. If he would have played for any other team he would have been the star player.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
First of all, Kukoc was the Bulls' 4th best player (behind Rodman). Second, if Kukoc is your star or best player then there's a good chance you're a 50-55 loss team. Third, on how many teams during that era would Kukoc be the star player? Maybe the Clippers? That's about it.
Well I didnt say anything about his ranking-- I said 3rd highest scorer, but not that you mention it, no I don't think Rodman was better. Rodman played more minutes was great at rebounding, but Kukoc either exceeded(especially steals and points) everything else or pretty much matched Rodman -- and played less. The only reason why Kukoc didn't play as much as he did for the Bulls is because he is not a power forward and there's no way Jordan or Jackson was going to have Kukoc start over Pippen.
(cont) -- Ya I think someone who can come off the bench and play a role he was not accustomed to anytime in his career up to that point and still put up the numbers he did with Pippen and Jordan sometimes still in the game could be a star on any team. Oh and another thing he played TWICE as long for the Bulls as Rodman - -so kind of hard to say at the very least that during the years Rodman WASN'T there that he was still a better ranked player than Kukoc
