Hi Heather, this is Wendy. I was watching Mystery Diagnosis last night and they said Fibromyalgia is a catch-all term for many different diseases, some of which might be able to be treated. There was a lady on there who was diagnosed with fibromyalgia and through many tests she found out she had something treatable. Don't give up because there might be able to be something causing these symptoms that can be changed. 1 in 10 people have a rare disease!
My doc diagnosed it by default after testing me for anything testable.
Its why i have 10 prescriptions, a large portion of them is managing the symptoms. I wanna go off everything and be monitored to see if some can be eliminated, but, unless its in a hospital, i don't think it would be truly safe to do, because of being on Paxil and lamictal, going off those cold turkey is not safe unsupervised. I've had meds for the side effects of meds! lol
Your not alone.. great you posted this... its horrible.. been a sufferer since 2003.. and have disk disease as well and diabetes... so.. Im fighting alot... lots of crying.. and full blown menopause... uhg... thank god I have faith.. thanks.. :)
Thanks for the sharing (sincere, not sarcastic). for a long time the medical community denied it was real, there is still no true testing its done by the process of elimination, but, they are doing studies and finding some relationships, not anything solid yet.
I was put on Lyrica , it helps, not a cure, but, that, pain management, ambien for insomnia, & zanaflex (muscle relaxer) for the restless leg & cramping, together they have given back at least 50% back from my average condition. (con't)
I also just moved from the home I'd been in for 6 years that had mold and repeated flooding from the septic tank (I know disgusting, and i lived with no health code laws, and the landlord sucked more than the fibro does! lol)
Its been just a month, and i am seeing a lot of improvement since moving.
I also could tell the first weeks my body was detoxing, and purging the mold poisoning.
I have been more physically active and done more in the last month than i did in 2009 all together,
I hate having all the meds to function.Prior to about 2001 I was a strict no drug person, unless i had a bad injury or surgery. I reluctantly took antibiotics, i wouldn't even take aspirin unless i was verging on migraine level pain.
I needed meds for anxiety/depression/etc since i was a teen at the least and finally at 30 was just sick of living like i was and it slowly worsening. (con't)
Once i saw how it helped, i warmed up to medications for things that are nothing more than a biological malfunction in my brain or body, or a nasty bacteria or virus.
Still not thrilled about it, but, know its whats healthiest for me.
They have found a connection between osteoarthritis and the fibro. Aslsoconnection between the fibro and the dysfunction that causes bipolar, which is similar to what i have.
(con't)
Losing weight helped in the way that there is less stress on my joints.
They have found a connection between osteoarthritis and the fibro. As well as a connection between the fibro and the dysfunction that causes bipolar, which is similar to what i have.
I can see that, because, when i began having manic episodes (i am officially borderline personality which mimics other illnesses, but, it is never full blown of what it is mimicking), I was put on Lamictal,a mood stabilizer, and it lightened my fibro stuff a little. So did i started Paxil in 2001.(cont)
They have made advances since i first became sick, heck, they can diagnose it now, they couldn't back then. I most likely would have been diagnosed with the generic chronic fatigue syndrome.
We have lyrica now, we have (some)doctors giving us pain management. It does not give you back your life fully, but, it does some.
I am fortunate i have responded well to treatment. I am also fortunate to have no side effects. (con't with questions for you)
Also, are you on hormone therapy? THAT helps tons. I am on estrogen since my hysterectomy in 2007. I feel better hormonally than i have since my late teens, when i developed PCOS.
I know it will probably help a little with the crying. It did me.
I am a crier. I just let it out. lol
Blood sugar can also effect mood and fatigue. So, i hope you're getting that under control too.
Fibro causes weight gain, weight gain causes diabetes.. Its a very viscous disease.
