  • While you're at it, why don't you do Stanley Kubricks take on The Shining and A Clockwork Orange, they're both terrible adaptations of books and seeing you rip into them would be oh so much more satisfying.

Also, try and boost the audio levels on both the content you're reviewing and the footage of yourself, I have my surround sound system on full blast and I still can barely hear you.

If you need, I could reference you some cheap & kickass editing software.

  • @PsychopathUltimate This was the first video I edited using WMM and at the time I hadn't found the volume controls for the video clips - all my later videos are louder :)

I'll see about doing some more rants in the future

  • The Hobbit cartoon was pretty bad, but it introduced me to Tolkien and his books, so it still holds a small place in my heart. :)

  • David Bowie never shows up in this and I do not believe you are sorry. I certainly would not be. And this is really the best of the animated adaptations, honestly, particularly for children.

  • @BlueCranberry David Bowie appears in the clip I used from Labyrinth - and yes it probably is the best out of the animated adaptations, but that's not saying much in it's favour

  • Looks like whoever designed the characters got ponies confused with mules

Also, I was drinking coffee when Gollum appeared, laughed and a load of coffee went down the wrong way and ended up all over me and the arm of the sofa

  • I actually think this movie is pretty good. It's really faithful to the book. The only two problems I have with it are Bilbo's appearance and the stupid soundtrack.

  • Trollhammeren

  • The film would have been too long and boring if they includeall the riddles.

  • @biguy617 they had enough time include a load of stupid songs, why not the riddles which are much more important to the plot and atmosphere of the story

  • @MortiSofMidian the riddles might have made the movie boring to kids who have never read the book. The Peter Jackson movie may include all the riddles though. But I think it is being overdone which is typical for Peter. He has casted Frodo, Legolas, Galaderiel, Saurman, old Bilbo and other characters who don't play major roles or any role at all in the book.

  • @biguy617 Yea I'm not quite sure what PJ is doing with making 2 films and padding them out with bits of other Tolkien stories - I hope he dosn't ruin it

  • @MortiSofMidian He is splitting the book in half. It maybe too long to tell in one film. It looks like Frodo plays the role of the audience point of view and Old Bilbo is telling the story to him. I think Galaderial and Saurman are there to show a reason why Gandalf has to leave Bilbo and the dwarves before they meet with the spiders.

  • Dude chill. It's just a movie.

  • LOL, I laughed sooo hard....

  • Like the Hitchhiker's reference there at the end. You are a man of culture and taste.

  • Just wondering, you weren't going to rant about Ralph Baski's Lord of the Rings from 1978 were you?(because I honestly think that that isn't that bad.) However, please do rant about the Rankin Bass Return of the King, that sucks!

  • @firemonster996 Actually I have plans to do both!

  • Haha, great rant. Love it.

If anyone is considering watching this film because you can't be bothered reading the book, DON'T! Get the audiobook read by Rob Inglis.

  • I always liked this movie. I still like it. You have to remember that this is the abridged version for snot nosed kids and infants who can't quite read yet.

  • you're scary :S

  • you remind me of 1 of my best friends.

and i always hated bilbos face

  • hell yeah captain hook is in this lol i love this film

  • sorry but hellboy was horrible both films

  • agreed

  • Hilarious

    Brings back memories

  • terrifying gollum impression there mate...

  • 7:47 ... what the hell? please disregard my ignorance and tell me what the hell that was....

  • that's David Bowie as the Goblin King in the film Labyrinth

  • ah, yes... David Bowie... mmmhmmmm... David Bowie... hmmmmm... yes...

rant about return of the king next.

  • a RotK rant is in the pipeline :D

  • Wait, is this the same dude who made Flight of Dragons? I'm asking because the dragons and gandolph look similar to the movies. And WHY do kids movies hava a million songs in them?

  • yes that's another Rankin/Bass film

  • Thanks. Loved the rant though.

  • i love this movie. guess its nostalgia. good rant though. i laughed.

  • 3:27.. it's the Lemmiwinks song?!

  • Enjoyed it so far Mortis, the rant that is, not the film. L. squealed with glee when you cut in Bowie.

  • Rankin/Bass seem somewhat addicted to musical numbers...

    Jolly fun rant though.
