01 7.3 powerstroke 23* coldstart

got to be bad glow plugs I have no trouble starting mine when it's 20 outside.

You have issues if at 20* it doesn't start right up that's not cold yet, try lighter oil, glow plug relay, bad glow plugs.....the way it sounds I would check the relay first.

my 99 7.3 is a bitch to start without plugging in lol.

it would probably help. my buddy has an 01 too i think and on cold days, he lets the fuel heater run for a good 45 seconds before he does the first crank.

Swtich to a Synthetic oil like Rotella, Delo, Schaeffers and that will really help out with the cold start like that. Also try new glow plug relay and maybe plugs.

My 7.3 never used to do that (02). I used to just run through the glow plugs twice or three times and she fired up...

NO,, turn the key on wait for the light to go out and if needed count to 20 (or whatever you feel you need) Fords don't cycle, they will stay on up to 2 min if needed.
