  • Dave has such a unique voice and yet it fits so well into so many different types of songs.

  • Proof the man can sing!!!! I can't wait for new van halen CD. I wish I had a copy of this show.

  • I loled.

  • This is great...and it's the same year '88 that I brought my five girlfriends to the Maple Leaf Gardens in a limo dressed in bikinis to meet David finally, after being on the road singing 'Ain't Talkin' Bout Love', and we were all so drunk on champagne we were all dumped on the sidewalk by the CPI crew. My producer was robbing me for my record production money and used the party to defame me so he'd get away with robbing me for the 5G! I still have never met Diamond Dave but I just love him so!

  • NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • pft. dlr can't play guitar, he just had someone tune it for him so he could barre the chords.

  • @weiisky1, you couldn't be more wrong. Have you ever heard Roth fingerpick? You can find clips on the internet if you look hard enough. The guy is a badass with an acoustic.

  • @weiisky1. Dave is actually quite capable on guitar. The acoustic guitar in Take Your Whisky Home as well as the beginning of Ice Cream Man, just to name two, are both played by the one and only DLR.

  • Where is the entire song?

  • I just love this clip of DLR.. Thank you for posting ! : )

  • DLR Awesome.

  • Vai unplugged in the 80 s......No way

  • I was really expecting this to suck - Wow, was I wrong...color me surprised!

  • What a fantastic video - DLR's amazing, warm voice AND playing the guitar too! Seriously, is there anything this man cannot do? He's a legend!

  • I'm impressed. Like to see the rest of the show if I'm honest.

  • That was surprisingly good.

  • RARE STUFF MAN !

  • when you're short on material always rely on the classics.

  • this song is seriously too short!

  • wow

  • is that Steve Vai?

  • LONG LIVE THE BEATLES!!

  • i must of watched this video about a thousand times

  • love dave...................mustaine lol

  • awesome

  • Who is it to DLR's immediate left? That is the Skyscraper Tour, so his lineup was Steve Vai, Gregg Bissonette, Matt Bissonette, and Brett Tuggle I believe.

Gregg and Vai are easy to pick out.

I would assume Matt is on the stand up bass, so that leaves Brett, but he was the keyboardist, didn't think he played guitar as well, but maybe.

    Anyone know?

  • David Lee Roth? Only one of the best singers and performers I have ever had the pleasure to see live! And he is the nicest guy to! At 13 I called in to a radio station he was at, giving an interview. I was a lucky caller who got to talk to him. He was very gracious to this 13 year old girl! I have nothing but good to say about him, he will always be one of my faves!

  • I'll be dreaming of my Paula tonight 333

  • versatile !!!

  • Van Halen doing a CLASSIC Beatle song GREAT

  • @robmat39 this is NOT Van Halen.

  • d.l.r. is a douche.

  • I wanna see the whole song!!

  • He's not afraid to try anything, and succeeds in most everything, this is an amazing talent, and a very intelligent, articulate and interesting man. Multifaceted, always interesting and funny.

  • I loved the vocals ...!!! Cool ....

  • is this the van halen singer

  • Wow, Steve Vai playing The Beatles? Coool!

  • Awesome! Love it!!!

  • i cant respect a man who plays in an open tuning and cant even form the three most basic chords in music.

  • @doctorbenjiphd: I totally understand that criticism — but I don't think most here will understand the complaint.

  • @doctorbenjiphd, I can't respect a man who would complain about something so trivial.

  • I love Dave .....

  • Dave did this song live with Steve Vai playing guitar in Sydney 18th October 1988. Anybody got that Sydney concert video converted to digital yet? I saw a few people there with Sony cams in the isles right next to me.

Dave also did "Wake Up Little Susie". I've got the sound recorded on an audio cassette somewhere in my garage but it might be a bit frail now. This is pretty good quality right here vid for 88....

  • I thought richie sambora sucked bad but.. this sucks in a completely new and unique way....ever the innovator.. stick with the overblown vocals and high wattage PA with a ton of echo and voice modulation that we know and love

  • @Stevie1Stifler, you're crazy man. Any rational person would agree that this version sounds pretty good. Good harmonizing, in tune, and showing respect to a classic song. Dave does a good job here.

  • @rch9000 2 true I am a crazy man.. I can't deny it.. although I've never been in prison so I can't be that crazy... Im sorry bro..I think Dave is one hell of an entertainer and in his prime second to none really at motivating an audience..I mean you see Sammy go out there and just plop down like a couch potato and Dave goes out there and puts out serious energy.. if I want to hear a slow ballad though you can't beat Buddy Holly for my money..

  • @Stevie1Stifler, I agree with every single one of your points. I just also happen to think this version is pretty good. Unexpected from Roth, and a pleasant surprise in my opinion. As far as Samobra goes, yeah, you called that one spot on!

  • @Stevie1Stifler don't know what you are talking about... do you do stifflers mum too?

  • he did a great job on a classic beatle song

  • I think I just shit myself...... Diamond singing The Beatles! ZOMG!!!!! And it's good!!!!

  • WOW!! Roth singing McCartney!!! My 2 favorite singers no lie!! 5 Stars!!

  • Maravilloso!!!!

  • I like that twang Dave it putting on the vocals. The backing band are all top of the food chain, knockout virtuosos, it is almost ridiculous the amount of talent on that stage.

  • supertight timing ay?

  • The man who simultaneously gave Van Halen their guts and then killed them...

  • Is there a full concert version of this footage around? It looks great. Professionally filmed

  • I Love DLR. He is one Hot MFer

  • i like Paul's version so much better

  • @Zman1125, fair enough. But you have to admit, this actually sounds pretty damn good.

  • Sweet!

  • Man was so fucking hot it was amazing.....ain't lookin' so damned bad now either!

  • This is awesome!

I didn't know Roth did this together with Bissonette & Vai!!!!

    amazing, tbh!

  • he plays guitar?!!

    haha COOL

  • open tuning like a noob...

  • haha good observation, how hard is it to strum a couple of chords.

  • hahaha.

  • yeah, very badly, he is a terrible guitarist, we are just lucky his guitar was mixed right down and out of this song.

  • @WhoKilledCallo he plays the intro to ice cream man, and thats a pretty damn good little bluesy number there. Considering he was with eddy van halen, of course he's not nearly as good lol but hes got one great voice!!

  • what a brilliant human being. he's the e in entertainment

  • @shaqloveskobe yes great song redone by another great band

  • Right on brother.

  • Thought the same exact thing. Still an interesting combo of mediocre singer and amazing song. Can't blame him for taking a shot at it.

  • I agree. Its surprisingly not the disaster I was expecting. Awesome username btw.

  • Just noticed your reply. We got a couple of thumbs down, but I suggest we stand strong ; ) "Surprisingly not the disaster I expected"...ROFLMAO...exactly.

And thanks...I like my user name a lot...I use it everywhere. It comes from another really great song.

  • awesome

  • I Would like to have this concert on dvd.

  • ehehe ,

    I like this .

    Cute Beatles cover ! (:

  • I have know idea what he is playing on the guitar, and he probably doesn't either, but the vocals are not bad!

  • Dave is playing chords set to an open tuning which means without putting his his left hand on the frets the guitar is tuned to an open A. Simple. His left index covers one fret for a chord and there you have it.

  • I was drinking. Apologies.

  • I Love Dave...

    Hot

  • The point is he can do a Classic song and not fuck it up. Now the better question for you is, where is the point.?That would be on the top of your head kid. Ed

  • Very good. Ed

  • That was surprisingly good! Dave is the man...

  • wow..i like it.

Great cover of a Beatle's gem

  • This refutes all the rumors over the years that Diamond Dave had pitch problems, couldn't remember lyrics had and relied on shouting. WRONG! Here we see a solid singer showing his excellent taste in classic rock - singing with respect and reverence, solidifying his place in Rock History.

  • @Corporations8MyBaby

Absolutely! Worst mistake the members of Van Halen made was to let their egos get the best of them, culminating in DLR leaving.

He's a hell of a showman and had an amazing stage presence with VH.

  • @Corporations8MyBaby

I saw VH on the 1984 tour. At the end of the show he was shitfaced and forgot the lyrics to "Ain't Talking 'Bout Love" during the encore. He evidently straightened up by 1988.

  • @Corporations8MyBaby But on othere occasions he was downright shitty pitch-wise and missed chunks out of verses - and I'm a huge Roth fan.

  • great!

  • You completely miss the point.

  • not bad especially since this is nowhere near his style

  • I think kid rock sounds and looks a bit like Dave, weird huh?

  • go dave, go!

  • why did david lee roth leave van halen? im so pissed

  • omg.Daves a friend of mine and hes a hoot anyways ! oh boy.

  • sounds decent

  • Who's on guitar & vocals, Joe Holmes?

  • pirate shirts!

  • I like this, It's cute :P

    Original's better though :)

    The Beatles♥♥♥♥

  • his guit is tuned as a major chord when you hit the open strings so that its easy for him

  • At least he sang in a normal voice in this song, instead of his screechy voice.

  • Cute-never saw this. Thanks for posting it!

  • What are those chords again Dave??

  • Capo on second fret. G E C D G for the verse and the chorus is D C G C G.

  • DLR has certainly never been one to cater to the lowest common denominator. He marches to his own beat for sure. A musician plays, an artist challenges.

Winners, they come and go. Legends, they're forever.

  • Wow, there pretty good lol.

  • this is really cute

  • who's is singing with him?

  • another musician... dime a dozen

  • No. That looks kinda Howard Stern but I'm probaly wrong. It just kinda looks like him. He and Roth were pals.

  • vai didnt do much in that but you can tell hes amiazing from just looking

  • very cool!! where is the rest?

  • why does vai always look evil...?

  • because hes the guitarplayer under devil's grace^^

  • Why do you see evil? Life long problems?Ed

  • LOL...That was great. Those cats harmonized really well on that.

  • Love watching hard rocker's tributing The Beatles. It's such a confirmation of their greatness

  • Love Him!!!!!!!!!

  • Twin Vai's

  • Twin Vai's

  • Twin Vai's

  • I wish this stuff would surface on DVD

  • Steve Vai looking VERY uncomfortable just STRUMMING an acoustic guitar!

  • Do you really think that the best guitarista on earth would be uncomfortable to strum a guitar? lol

  • Do you really think that the best guitarista on earth would be uncomfortable to strum a guitar? lol

  • Haha DLR

  • there acully really good, dunno whats with those two other guys heh

  • the beatles are the best!!!

  • YEAH!!!! Go Dave Go!!!

  • Words fail me. :-O

  • Top mullet on the guy in the Blue.

  • yeah maybe, but this song was written by paul mc cartney, credited to lennon/mc cartney. check it on the album. it was mostly written by paul, so do your research before you say a biased comment like that.

  • LOL, check out Abbey Road, Let it Be and the White album to hear a lot of songs written by Paul without Lennon's input that are better than this one.

  • WTF?

  • HILARIOUS!

  • I think I have this performance on the David Lee Roth in Japan 1988 Toshiba TV special. I will have to check. I have not watched that DVD in 2 years.

  • I would love to have this concert on DVD!! Thanks for posting.
