Much better than "Mickey." I can actually dig it. This song actually got played on AOR stations back in the early 80's. Only went Top 75 pop in 1984 & barely made a dent on the rock charts. Don't know the actual position of the song on either chart.

Were Toni Basil and Fran Drescher separated at birth? Good song, but I feel the only reason why Mickey was such a big hit was its novelty appeal and NOT her singing talents. Sadly, she isnt so strong vocally. Great song though.

@MegaSmurf1212 I dont know, I think her voice sounds pretty good here. There are definitely much stronger singers out there, but I kind of like her singing here. Of course this was pre-Whitney, Mariah, et al so you didn't have that many power singers on the pop charts back then.

This was one of my Favorite videos in the early '80s. Can't understand why this wasn't a bigger hit for her! She could sing and actually paved the way for the likes of Paula Abdul, Janet Jackson and Britney Spears. Being able to sing and dance became an important aspect in making videos in the '80s.

Why wasn't it more popular..? "Over My Head"... the second attempt was trying to be more classy... she was peddling more classical dance and other styles in her 2nd release more than cheerleading.. even musically it was going further...

80's pop and new wave - you just can't top the positive energy and good vibes from the 80's music. Techno - and the British music scene have some good music that has never really changed. It's the record companies that forced grunge on us and pushed out 80's music. The rest of the world got to keep listening to what they wanted....

Yes, she was part of it back in the 70s. And this is my favorite song besides Shopping(A-Z) and Mickey . I love the use of synths and guitar shredding in the number. Pretty innovative video for 1982 with the magazines and the use of Basil in the video.. Sort of reminds me a little of the scene from My Own Private Idaho with the porno mags coming to life.

She's so cool. I agree with the others who said she was underrated. A lot of these songs could've been major hits in the early-80s (synthesizers and dancing were huge around that time). They are genuinely great songs. "Hey Mickey" is a cool song but it really overshadowed her later work.

Toni Basil saved my life once! In the 80's my friends and I left the record shop Wax N Facts and this homeless looking guy kept trying to talk to us, but my friend forgot he wanted to get this song and we went back in the store. When we came out, that same guy had pulled a gun on someone! If we hadn't gone back in the store, that would have been us!

Yes "Mickey" was catchy but I truly think this was a MUCH better song. She expanded her boundaries with her second effort and it's a shame it went unnoticed.
