... nope, can't say the accents are really working for me. Also, ukulazy, have to disagree with you I'm afraid, in terms of no one outside of Yorkshire really understanding. We're based in Nottingham, so not that far away from you and we definitely had a bad time of it when all the coal mines were systematically closed down.
I am sorry but i live in the next city from Sheffield in the uk you should never every get anybody over seas to play a broad Yorkshire ascent it can not be pulled off and don,t mean to pick its job centre not job club
I don't know. They did a good job. The only direction I would give would get the chap playing Dave to cut down that pause on the $20,000 joke punchline by about 2 minutes.
Only if you don't think it's funny, which is your prerogative, but it doesn't make it bad editing. It's an artistic choice, one that some people like. Can't cater to everyone
erm, because the film is set in northern england? Suppose it doesnt matter in a drama workshop like this, but if it was for a major production then the fact that this story is set in the north of england is a pretty crucial part
I'm only too well aware of subject of the film, but it also refelcted global issues at the time, the fact that many countries were suffering from the loss of heavy industry as it moved out west. Sheffield was a vehicle for that issue. And alright, you may think it was specific to Sheffield because of some native humour perhps. If so then why did it win best foreign film at the German Film Awards? And less of the prick thank you. I'm trying to have an honest debate here.
You're entitled to read into the film as you like, but I disagree. Just because it won a German award doesn't mean you can assume that the film aimed to encompass every country that was experiencing that kind of decline.
People have a tendency to overgeneralise such themes so they can relate to them more...
It would make more sense to suggest that the film is not about the steel industry (coal mining was equally important) or Sheffield (many Northern towns, and other countries, were affected), but the adversity suffered by working class citizens, their perochial attitudes, and the ways in which they, like everybody else, find happiness, success and meaning in life.
I know what the film was about. I haven't seen the stage play and I'm not interested in seeing it. The above clip is from the film script anyway so what's your point?
wow. if only you could act.... or film well... or cast well... or pick a good (non-echoey) location.... or adapt the script from the original well.... then it might not be complete and utter poo.
Sheffield been relocated to Australia has it? :P

That was deliberately edited in. The real pause was only about 5 seconds

Then that's bad editing.

I'm from where the film is set!
English, Northern accents are not hard to mimic. Just try that and then it would be better but other than that, I like it! =)

Why do they have to play it in Norhern English accents?

Then why is the stage play set in America? The film had international resonances. The fact that it was set in Northern England was not important.
KorvorraCzeztikov 3 years ago
it was of the utmost important, you prick.
The film is about the decline of steel industry in Sheffield (The Steel City), and the effect this had on unemployment and people's lives in general.
How the hell could you be so ignorant as to miss that?!

IT SO WAS IMPORTANT
the steel industry was set in SHEFFIELD
the steel industry stopped meaning they was put out of work thats the reason they did the full monty because loads of people were out of work
and you proberly dont get that because the american stage play has been twisted and messed up
