I'm sure that gong drum needs tuning up a little and i wish my drums were bubinga and my rack toms were all 6" deep and i wish... hmm basically I wish I had his kit...tasty
Um, see those little red squares on the edge of the snares? Those are triggers. That means that the crowd is not hearing TAMA drums. They're hearing a pre-programed FAKE drum tone.
Those are for electronic triggers so you don't have to use three kits (you get to use the same counds as the producer did in the studio), check his newer setup he basically has another kit to his left. The round discs are mutes...kinda like moon gels.
About the triggers that you see there: first of all I only see triggers on the snares, that means that Brian uses them because, as he explains, Cristina has so many different styles that he needs almost a new different snare sound for every each song.. It's impossible to have a closer recording snare different sound for each song, just if he changed for a different snare every song he played at the show.. So before you make comments you must understand and learn before writing.. Brian is great.
Well its all personal preference. How you hold your drum sticks, what techniques you use, all that good stuff just depends on the drummer(and sometimes their equipment). Like Akira Jimbo, I pretty sure he keeps his cymbols hi in the air because they would cause triggering problems for the inputs on his kit. But that could just be how he likes them. Well keep drumming!!
pop music and all stuff like that is awesome for drummers cos it incorparates so many different styles, you can go from playin rock, to latin to funk to hip hop, i think it would be great and shows literally how good this guy is
Haha, while as I do agree that a lot of good drummers get their start and hone their chops in church. Not all of the "best" start out playing in church though. Vinnie Colaiuta didn't, nor did Dennis Chambers. Not even Tony Royster, Jr! It has nothing to do with where you came up playing, but rather the drive, dedication and love for your craft. =]
Hey, you know.. people play how they play man. Practically all the licks you see played in church are taken directly from Jazz & Jazz/Fusion drummers. Tony is by no means a "church" player, or even a "gospel" drummer for that matter. He came up playing predominantly Jazz & Jazz/Fusion. And needless to say, he's also one of the most versatile players around as well. In short: he can deliver. So what you dub "Churchy chops" is just one respective perspective on his playing. =]
this is unbelieveable! what a great set-up.

Well he did say he triggers it a lot.
If he's triggering it during a show then it doesn't really need to be tuned if he's triggering exclusively.

Even though there is a lot of stuff there, those toms look really confortable.

I never understood drummers that have their toms up high! I love every piece of my kit being flat....so I can get a good solid hit.

Sweet kit! I wish I had picked similar tom sizes as Brian. Stupid obsession with Mike Portnoy's kit when I was younger lol.

Pays the bills man. With a gig of that caliber, they are paying him well. So in the end, he's making a good living off doing what he loves. =]

Great but most of all functional kit. That makes it outstanding above the other ''over-the top'' kits.

i hate the fat farting snare, the 10 rocks
mrsiix 4 years ago
But sometimes it's appropiate for some songs...If you go into a professional studio playing a 10" snare on a ballad you won't get good reviews...
