What is the F? Yours was F3.5. I understand that the lower that number is, the more light it lets in. I have the 18-55mm lens (like you) and mine says it is F5.6. What is my problem?
How did you get it to perform so good in low light?? Even if I film indoors where there is no beaming sunlight, but still light from lamps and windows etc. it starts to get all grainy and look like crap. Help!
That is VERY clean for 6400 ISO! I don't know how you did it. If I go over 800 ISO with the stock lens I get rainbow noise all over the place. My 50mm helps because its so fast, but it still crops quite a bit.
this is amazing people say low light sucks with the kit lens.. this is waaay better than what i have...should i get it for shooting video???? cuz thats what i need a new camera for
i just ordered this cam ima picc it up from ups 2day, im going to try 2 shoot a music video wiff the kit lense nd see how it cums out , then plan on gettin newer lenses any suggestions ?
@enjoiR3 I couldn't tell you, but I think the 18-135mm just gives you a stronger zoom. Now some lenses like the stock lens change f/stops while you zoom, If you don't want this to happen there are lenses that don't change f/stops while you zoom, but they are generally more expensive. Aside from that, it's all about the wide angle or zoom ability. To cover your bases getting three lenses is a good idea, one macro, one telephoto and the stock lens.
@enjoiR3 depends on what you're trying shoot and where. In the day time you can use a fast shutter. Try the 50mm 1.8. The 18-55 kit lens could work with a lot of light. The 18-135mm is just a nice lens to have period.
Should I purchase just the body, and buy 18-200mm lens.. Or get the body with the kit lens? I might be paying more, but if it's worth it why not cos i heard kit lens arent good.
oh ok i get what you mean about the UV.. But my video still looks noise with like grain at night... how can i fix that promblem
you have the ISO on on 6400 and the shutter speed on 1/80 what else do i need.. would you be kind enough to post a video like you setting up the settings and then turning the lights down to see how it looks on yours.. i would really appreciat it...
@Marcelony2 Yes in low light at 6400 iso you will see grain in the raw video off of the camera. To cut the amount of grain try and stay below 1600 iso. I'd also suggest filming at 1/50 of a second shutter speed, this will capture about 40% more light then 1/80.
The reason you don't see a lot of grain in this video is because it has been re compressed by youtube to a lower bitrate format that smooths out areas of similar color/tone.
Experiment by uploading your video to see how they look.
@Marcelony2 You seem to be slightly confused about what a UV filter is. A UV filter as a piece of treated glass that you can attach to the end of your lens. The purpose of a UV filter is two fold. First it can physically protect the outside lens from scratches and caustic environments like sea spray which may dissolve fine finishes on some lens's, and second to cut down on glare from reflective surfaces. That's my understanding but I might be off the mark... 1/2
@Marcelony2 I myself don't use a UV filter because modern lens's are made of HARD glass that won't easily scratch (don't test that claim) and I don't mind natural glare of objects that should have it. To finish answering your question to get to f3.5 with the stock lens you need to be fully zoomed out, and to use the Image Stabilizer simply put the IS switch ON THE LENS to the on position. With the stock lens zoomed fully out you won't notice much image stabilization even when turned on.
@Bluewolf2028 This video I uploaded raw from the camera, youtube recompressed it to work with this site. The software I use when I edit is Final Cut Pro, but a free alternative is the obvious iMovie if you're on mac or Windows Movie Maker on windows 7 might be of some use, but I haven't looked at that one. A cheap alternative on Mac is Final Cut Express, and on PC or Mac Adobe Premiere Elements.
um i tried using it with the same lense but when i put the memory card on my laptop the quality went all fuzzy, what mode where you using i am new to canon i've always had a nikon
@MrDanceFiend Alright, I'm going to assume you filmed it in focus, there is a little button to zoom in 5x or 10x on the viewfinder to fine tune your focus, but that's not your problem.
Is the software you're using on your laptop displaying a low quality render? The video files the Rebel creates are large and processor intensive, if your laptop is older it might not be able to play the video in full quality. My Pentium D 2.5ghz can't properly play the video files either.
@mesho512 Yes. The video quality that came off the camera was a 5MB per second avch264(codec) .mov file. What we see here on youtube is a much lower bit rate video that is more aggressive in it's compression. For instance the areas that had a lot of grain in the original look smoothed out in this youtube video.
@smithy2306 Iso 6400 is the fastest, meaning it gathers light the fastest. Iso 100 is the slowest, meaning it gathers light slowly. Iso 100 LOOKS cleaner then iso 6400 but is virtually unusable in dark situations like this one. In normal operation with ample light you should never go faster then iso 800, but good results can be had at faster iso's. When I say CLEANER I mean less grain.
@MauyMcFearson In manual exposure / iso you mean? Is your memory card a class 6 or higher? If it's below class 6 it won't be able to record HD video. I got a 8GB class 6 card for $20, they're getting cheaper all the time.
@ChrisKemila I have a class 6, but when I'm in Manual mode and try to record, it won't let me. It only lets me record in the actually recording mode, but that doesn't let me mess with ISO and what-not.
hey there,i have a question.im using 550d too but i couldn't figure out how to select the aperture to 3.5 in manual video mode.it's not being less than 4.0 when i trying it
@Lucian1905 Hi, if you're using the kit lens it changes f stops as it zooms. To get f3.5 you need to be fully zoomed out. There are lenses on the market that don't change f stops while zooming. Hope that helped.
There is no way that is 6400 on a t2i, my t3i @ 6400 looks like COMPLETE garbage.
