  • Hell, I love kata..being it an original shotokan or other stlye (shotokanised or not)...just love learning and walking that everlasting path of perfection

  • ????

  • this is not a recognized shotokan kata by the JKA or the WKF so my dojo does not teach nor practice it

  • Shouldn't basic stances be worked on before performing advanced supplimentary katas. I think these people should spend more time on the Heian katas and less time saying "look at our association we learnt this on a course for an hour and here we are doing a bad job of it". These karate-ka cant even step forward in front stance properly never mind sanchin dachi.

  • umm your infos fucked up, this kata means "108" as in the techniques originally in it but it does not mean 108 "directions" directions is not even in the name of the form or in its okinawan name. no offense

  • hyaku = 100

    hachi = 8

    ho = step(s)

    So the name translates as "108 steps."

  • "ho" means method or direction, so the author is correct

  • Sochin dachi is the stance from sochin kata but some believe sochin dachi is the same as fudo dachi

  • That's because it is! rooted or imoveible stance, formed by master funakoshi's youngest son, Yoshitaka Funakoshi in the30's, bout the same time he formed ten no kata.

    OSU

  • Sorry the comment was for howardthecpa

  • This looks drastically like the goju-ryu Kata Suparumpai

  • This kata is one of the very first kata, then when all karate became independant styles it was adopted by shotokan, goju Ryu & shito Ryu. Very old kata.

    OSU.

  • Coz it IS... Well, a 'Shotokanized' version anyway... My understanding is that Kanazawa introduced it...

    PS 'Hyakuhachi' and 'Suparinpei' are just the Japanese and Okinawan language versions of '108'; i.e. the same thing...

  • Traditionally, the kata uses sanchin dachi . Whilst we have seen it done with sochin dachi, it has been traditionally sanchin dachi (with the begining of the kata reminiscent of Sanchin Kata). Other stances in the kata are kokutsu dachi, kiba dachi, zenkutsu dachi, shiko dachi and neko ashi dachi. Check the stances section on our site to see all of these. Hope this is helpful!

  • sochin stance?
