I -being female- wouldn't be as interested in this movie had there not have been a decent chick or two. Even if she's only shown for all of 5 minutes, it's a nice addition to help appeal to more. Gladiator, 300, Troy, and more all had them too. I know it's hard to believe that females could have roles other than food cooking barefoot wenches but they did in many cultures. Even before the glam and spotlights. The skinny, big chested, model part is the exaggeration.

the plot does seem to suck, making the romans out to be the good guys in trouble and the Pictish (native scottish, not Celts, celts mixed with picts around 1400 years ago creating scots, picts lived in scotland for over 10,000) out to be the bad guys, when in fact the Pictish warriors were the only tribe skilled enough to defy Roman invasion/massacre consistently

The most ancient cultures on Earth date back no more than 6,000 years and all the evidence (Philology etc) points towards them settling in Caledonia between 3,000 BC and 1,000 BC.

Gotta love the attention to historical detail though: if they have British accents, they MUST be Roman. Just like Nazis (when they speak English) and evil stormtroopers on the Death Star.

If I want to see truly entertaining stories pertaining to the ancient Romans, I'll just wait for the next season of Spartacus.

@joshcboy Yes, thank you for saying. These people are idiots. Probably only 16 y/o and seen 3 movies in their life (LoTR trilogy). LoTR itself based on ancient Celtic/Pagan/Norse history and mythology. Peter Jackson btw did an awful job of directing. They should have been shot in Britain (the true inspiration for the story), better casted, better soundtrack, and definately better direction.

The Shire was meant to resemble English countryside. Rohan was definitely supposed to be a land of Nordic Scandinavians. Mordor was based on Transylvania. Near Harad was north Africa(Southrons=Berber Arabs,) Far Harad was sub-Saharan Africa(Black Africans,) Easterlings were Arabs from the M.E. and Persians/central Asians etc
