Thanks for getting in touch! :) You don't need wifi to listen to audible's audiobooks. However, you DO need an internet connection to sync books you've purchased from them, to the iPhone app. (at one point you were able to buy books within Audible's iPhone app, but due to legal reasons, you can't anymore) I hope this helps.
