Well this is embarassing, but upon realising most of my information was from forums I dug around for a solid post about this stuff and found a pretty detailed article that proves ncsoft is in the right... I still dislike them as a game company but they were indeed robbed of the game system and concept art. I like Tera. I wouldn't have played lineage 3 do to how grindy the series is. But I hope tera is allowed to continue in the US with ncsoft being payed a large amount of continous money.
@Unf0rget Could you give me a source? I still think it wasn't stolen at all. For starters the character design artwork NCsoft has show to compare to tera's look nothing like eachother to me. Also, I simply feel NCsoft are suing simply because a) they can or b) because (in their eyes) Tera poses as a threat to GW2.

Tera now is vastly different from lineage series for sure. The largest difference being Im considering to play Tera. My source was a guild wars 2 journal post. Search Bluehole vs Tera and it should pop up. It only considers things I believe to be officially stated by ncsoft. It seems I was under misconception that the project was scrapped before they left. But I figure there must be some incentive for one man to convince as many people as he did to leave their current job.

As far as I have seen in my limited searching only the ncsoft opinion is official. Bluehole doesn't talk about it. Teras concept art has no similarity to lineage 3, perhaps it was a creative boost but that isn't copy right violation in my artistic opinion. The stolen 5 million dollar engine is something that should be repaid.
All in all I just want to see the game come out. Im not fond of ncsoft as the only game I have ever played that has been made by them, aion, the community was entirely ignored. No suggestion, no nothing got more than a nod from a community manager who had no influence. Its not so much a long game that is annoying as a game that is made long by terrible luck. If I know how long the grind is I dont care. But if its random... jesus. The horror stories of luck based crafting/drops.
But on Tera being a threat to guild wars I dont see it. Guild wars is non subscription and has a huge following. Also they didn't make it so they have every right to have confidence in it. (arena net makes guild wars, they function under ncwest) The following and the non subscription make it a very guarented success. Many people like mmos but wont pay subscription. If anything the threat is to Blade and Soul which is likely to be bad luck enforced grind.
Sigh. From reading dozens of threads about this. Of the people who were making lineage 3 90 of them walked out at the same time. Only FIVE went to work on this game. What does that tell you? Im going to make a few assumptions as no one knows why they walked out on a job. Perhaps the working conditions were terrible. Perhaps they were more limited than most game developers. Ncsoft pumps out cool stuff but they're all about the money. Tera has nothing in it from lineage 3.
To elaborate on what I mean by that they wrote the code for the engine for lineage 3. They then used that code to make up for lost time on their own project. They entirely editted out anything based on lineage 3. This was proven in one of the previous suits against Tera by ncsoft. Hint; Ncsoft has not won any of its suits against Tera. Tera has no siege warfare, has a better politics system, is more action based combat, has no player punishment, has more open world pvp. Not lineage 3.
Well i'm soooo glad that they stole the code and made Tera out of it. You may ask why: Because NCSoft fucking sucks! Seriously these stupid guys kill every awesome MMO just because they're unable to handle them properly.

I dont really get why but i do not like it.. I dont understand how can you bother so much to steal something only to make it worse.. It has better graphics than l2 but it really is boring from what I see.. Colorless ugly character animation.. Good skill animation though even though the color balance is of! And no special effects or environment to make it interesting.. Plainly boring..

However, the creators of the code *BlueHole* are co owners since the created it. NCSoft got butthurt because their talented imployess retreated after having enough of company BS. Lineage 2 was a grindfest but in the end it is what made it so immersive and worth it in the end. lvl 79 storm screamer here, and in c3-c5 I kicked some serious ass!!!Those were the good ole days, Tera is too cutsie and plain. I liked being able to choose different races and each subclass branched off into 3 more, this made for much more player diversity and more interesting strategies and party combinations. Tera only has 7 classes and any race can be any class.... lame.

Now Tera is mid-release between lineage 2 and lineage 3, because Lineage 3 was supposed to use Unreal 3 engine, so after the incident they decided to make whole new engine for Lineage 3, Tera uses Unreal 3 engine same as Lineage 2 so they are very similar games but will be very different from Lineage 3 now all we have to do is wait and see

Played the Korean beta, the game sucks anyway. It had potential but I assure you the game is far from finish and the stage at which they are releasing it will severely cripple it's development. The game is fun until you get to around 20 then it just starts becoming more of the same. It severely lacks customization of any kind. This game brings nothing new to the genre. Your better off looking into Blade & Soul, ArcheAge, The Secret World and Guild Wars 2.

@HolyBomb maybe so, It must be great to be paid twice if they dont replace the artists that is. But I was talking about having to work on something twice when you have used up all your ideas. I remember working on my own project although its great and would revisit I wouldn't want to draw, paint and digital paint the same thing over and over again. @HolyBomb I feel bad for the poor concept artists that put long hours in making the visual ideas for the game. Now they have to do it twice, creating characters and sword designs are hard work. I wish bethsda would put some of the clothes and armour of the elves and dark elves from Lineage 2 in The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. I mean half of their ideas for females are boring and they could learn a thing or two how to make elves instead of retard looking things.

I play tons of different games i don't need to consume my 24/7 in one game only. i also play eve online so kiss my ass about wow whiners, eve is wow for smart people and it expands the gameplay we know so far, wanna play a new game that gives lots of promising features? The Secret World.
@Deathandtheapple new in game must mean fun otherwise why bother. Eve is not a second job, you don't need to grind for your skills you can stay offline while learn them. The only thing you need to grind for is doing missions which takes about 30min. i spend 2-3hours per day on eve and not 24/7. i remember spending on L2 15 hours per day, that was a second job. Before you misjudge about something learn from expirience first.
Nc soft games are retarted.Here go play 15 hours a day for 8 months to make a decent level and some crap items while few people who got epic sets pwn everyone else.This is what happens with the majority of people.From 10 thousand people about 40-50 have full epic sets and bassicly they pwn all the rest.So i don't really see where is the fun for the other people when they cannot do anything unless they have 100ppl clan witch clan leader has choosen them to give epics.

What basically happened is that the former developers for Lineage 3 (Not Lineage2) used the NCSoft technology to create Tera. It is illegal, as the technology was created by NCSoft. They developers were sued and found guilty.
If you are not selfish, you'll care for those guys who worked for the engine. If you are, than you won't care they used the engine without asking and only care about is to play the game no matter how it was made. Here's the point - to thumbs it all up.

@213agito Ideas, graphic models, monsters, part of some stories, few gameplay thing etc. was rly taken from l3 project cuz ppl working on it joined BlueHole studio. So in rly big part things in-game were made for L3 :P

Have you even take a look at TERA's races? It's story? It's world? How could you compare it with Lineage... really?! I really don't care if it was stolen or not. All i care about is playing it :) I have played the korean open beta and its an AWESOME game. The company who has it now (Blue hole Studios) can go far with this game. The fact its a non targeting system makes it so much better as well!

Lineage 2 was a grindfest but in the end it is what made it so immersive and worth it in the end. lvl 79 storm screamer here, and in c3-c5 I kicked some serious ass!!!Those were the good ole days, Tera is too cutsie and plain. I liked being able to choose different races and each subclass branched off into 3 more, this made for much more player diversity and more interesting strategies and party combinations. Tera only has 7 classes and any race can be any class.... lame.

If something is so essential that if you don't do it you're considered a "noob" should be made automated. What kind of skill do you need to be able to hold a button or use CapsLock? Now Tera is mid-release between lineage 2 and lineage 3, because Lineage 3 was supposed to use Unreal 3 engine, so after the incident they decided to make whole new engine for Lineage 3, Tera uses Unreal 3 engine same as Lineage 2 so they are very similar games but will be very different from Lineage 3 now all we have to do is wait and see

Played the Korean beta, the game sucks anyway. It had potential but I assure you the game is far from finish and the stage at which they are releasing it will severely cripple it's development. The game is fun until you get to around 20 then it just starts becoming more of the same. It severely lacks customization of any kind. This game brings nothing new to the genre. Your better off looking into Blade & Soul, ArcheAge, The Secret World and Guild Wars 2.

@HolyBomb maybe so, It must be great to be paid twice if they dont replace the artists that is. But I was talking about having to work on something twice when you have used up all your ideas. I remember working on my own project although its great and would revisit I wouldn't want to draw, paint and digital paint the same thing over and over again. It becomes boring and dull for the artist and he losses his ambition to be creative and he becomes tired of drawing.

@HolyBomb I feel bad for the poor concept artists that put long hours in making the visual ideas for the game. Now they have to do it twice, creating characters and sword designs are hard work. I wish bethsda would put some of the clothes and armour of the elves and dark elves from Lineage 2 in The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. @Deathandtheapple new in game must mean fun otherwise why bother. Eve is not a second job, you don't need to grind for your skills you can stay offline while learn them. The only thing you need to grind for is doing missions which takes about 30min. i spend 2-3hours per day on eve and not 24/7. i remember spending on L2 15 hours per day, that was a second job. Before you misjudge about something learn from expirience first.

Nc soft games are retarted.Here go play 15 hours a day for 8 months to make a decent level and some crap items while few people who got epic sets pwn everyone else.This is what happens with the majority of people.From 10 thousand people about 40-50 have full epic sets and bassicly they pwn all the rest.So i don't really see where is the fun for the other people when they cannot do anything unless they have 100ppl clan witch clan leader has choosen them to give epics.

What basically happened is that the former developers for Lineage 3 (Not Lineage2) used the NCSoft technology to create Tera. It is illegal, as the technology was created by NCSoft. They developers were sued and found guilty.
If you are not selfish, you'll care for those guys who worked for the engine. If you are, than you won't care they used the engine without asking and only care about is to play the game no matter how it was made. Here's the point - to thumbs it all up.

There is now no official word on the production of Lineage III. Many employees have left NCSoft and joined Blue Hole Studios to produce the game Tera: The Exiled Realm of Arborea[citation needed], Produced by En Masse Entertainment in the west. It uses the Unreal 3 engine, and is scheduled for release in Q4 2011
