Well, the typical shock value you see nowadays is garbage like Dr. Phil and Jerry Springer and other things with lots of smut and violence. Surrealism still has a sense of shock value to it, but with a whole heck of a lot more class. It can shock people while remaining G-rated. I plan to write a G-rated shock value manifesto one day, after I finish reading the surrealist manifesto.
