The Oval Office belongs to Bartlet, but that press room belongs to CJ. She was, through the entire series, my favorite character, even moreso than Bartlet and Leo (Leo came in 2nd for me). CJ was intelligently and intimidatingly sexy, if you get my meaning. The woman that you wouldn't consider 'til you saw her in action at her best (get your minds out of the gutter), then you would but you'd realize she's WAY out of your league, so you'd just grovel at her feet and slink away.

@DarwinsCreator: I think CJ was much more interesting as press secretary b/c the writing was much better during the first 4 years of the show, and CJ's character was more interesting when she was fighting for her voice to be heard, vs. being the authority in the administration. That's my take. She was BRILLIANT on this show.

@studentofsmith there is a wealth of available memoirs from both sides: press secretaries and white house reporters. You'll find that is not the case. There is no small distinction to be made between a genuine hard-pressing question and an inapprpriate personal attack. For the former, no administration could suppress a press-member without mutiny erupting from the group. For the later, that same group will gladly aid in cannibalizing the reporter, as seen here...after all, CJ only gave her over.

I think you have more faith in journalist and the journalistic process then I would. It seems to be more about speed over accuracy. Pandering to shock value over intellectual stimulation. Reporting sound bites over the finer nuances. We have not had anything close to C.J. in my lifetime, unfortunately.

which means that 2/3 majority to get the vote through is 290 to sustain is 289.

There was formal event at the WH and CJ had changed into more business attire to give a briefing (or bwiefing) about a bombing that had happened that night where 2 Americans were killed. So, during a stand-up the reporter made a snarky remark about CJ being a clothes horse and changing clothes several times - which lead up to this scene.
