Hey, it's Lewis Beach Marvin III, the dude from the Mondo Hollywood documentary! He sounds pretty stoned here though. In Mondo Hollywood, he also mentions that he is a vegetarian, and has a pet monkey named "Mr. President."
You can watch Mondo Hollywood on Hulu dot com for free (YouTube seems to forbid links in the comments). Just go to hulu dot com and type "Mondo Hollywood" in the search field.
This is the guy that presented Jim Morrison a lamb on stage in my Miami. And the floppy hat Lewis is wearing here appears to be the exact floppy hat that Morrison took from him and can be seen wearing in many photos from the infamous Miami concert. Haunted studios did you ever get a chance to talk to Jim?
In 1967 Morrison, Randy Blackfox, George Armstrong Custer III [aka asshole George] and I [all members of Vito's Dancers] climbed the full stairs up to the top of the 9000 building on Sunset Blvd and smoked an awful lot of dope . . .
@HauntedStudios That's cool. Ahhh, yes, The 9000 building across the street from the Rainbow and Roxy. It hasn't changed much. Rolling onto Sunset for some good times between Clark and Doheny, the 9000 building always stands tall. Later Jim would do his dance on top of the roof in 1969 while filming and finishing his movie "HWY." I'm sure that the conversation was interesting and stimulating!!! And you had a blast up there!!!
If it was not for Joe Pyne, there would not be any of these political nut jobs running around. He gave birth to this combat, political commentary which O' Reilly, Glenn Beck and Rush has adopted.. Yes, 1966 was a very good year if you lived in the Los Angeles area for televison, but most of these antics are now adopted now. One must look at Fox News and see why..
Yes, we danced to the Doors at the Whiskey. Vito and the dancers were let in free each night, our dancing helped put the place on the map. The only time Vito ever paid to get into the Whiskey was on the Friday before he left town. He said "I paid Elmer the cash and danced my ass off" . . .
Yes. From 1966-1968 I was one of Vito's dancers. We danced at virtually all the clubs, dance concerts, concerts, etc. In 1968 Vito left LA and eventually ended up in Cotati, California where I lifed with his family for several years before returning to LA to work in the television industry.
Rumor has it that Frank Zappa once appeared on this show and Pyne asked him, "Doesn't that long hair make you feel like a woman?" Zappa's resonse was "Well, does that wooden leg make you feel like a table?" He was reportedly promptly ejected from the place. If that clip exists, I would kill to see it!
This is nearly correct. Pine said "You've got long hair, does that MAKE you a woman?" and Zappa replied "You've got a wooden leg, that that MAKE you a table?" I was there that night with my friend Vito "backstage", really off to the side as there was nothing behind the cyc, but no matter. Zappa was not thrown off the show the interview ran for two segments after this classic comment.
Fantabulous! I'm amazed that all this stuff didn't get lost or destroyed. Although this guy was considered rude and crude at the time, when compared to his successor Wally George, he was downright avuncular. Does the episode with Paul Krassner and Phil Ochs also still exist?
Yes, I have that one on 2" quad, but since I have retired it is not so easy to get it transfered. I am hoping to make a trip to the west coast this year, and will be taking the tape with me to have dubbed.
My memories of Mr. Burke were from his time in 1974-75 as anchor of WPIX's Sunday night newscast (as they were starting their "Action News" branding).
Yes, and CBS also used PC-60s & 70s in that same time for most of their network programming, if I'm not mistaken. I also remember that they used a portable version, the PCP-90, for their coverage of the '68 Democratic Nat. Convnetion in Chicago.
I do agree with trill, those Norelco cameras made a pretty nice & vibrant picture (prolly because of the plumbicons. Beats a CCD any day, IMHO. ;) )
Also, I can pretty much (after viewing many old video clips) tell apart the quality of a PC-60/70-produced picture from, say, a later model (such as Hitachi SK-110's used by CBS starting in the early 1980's, or the Ikegami HK-312C's used by ABC in that same time period). Let alone EMI 2001's (British camera) or GE's PE-250/350 cameras.
WOW what a weirdo!!!

Pyne was somewhat of a pioneer, but was a real jerk as he is here. He comes off as the moron.

This show had kind of a strange theme song, with only a bass drum and xylophone. Only in the 60's I guess...

Burke to also had a show that ran from 66 - 69 but was affiliated in New york.

I seem to remember in New York, Mr. Burke's 1960's show aired on WNEW-TV (now WNYW), after "The 10 O'Clock News."
