@JesseKolp - You can't teach hands with that kind of feel and that kind of speed. Yeah, the flans and double strokes are identifiable but the speed and the consistency is a gift. out of this world.
@JesseKolp the crux of music is not replication. that's why pop music today all sounds like the same over-produced crap. music comes from the soul, it's improvisation. you could learn his solo in a week, but that's all you're doing. playing Beauford's solo. you're not making music.
@jetsterx yes i absolutely agree with that statement, but this solo wasnt a work of art to him, he wasnt putting all that much emotion into it, hes flaunting. ive seen some serious art come out of his mind, but this is just getting the point across he can play well and look good doing it, hence the bubble.
@domdecosa that's not his gum popping. if you listen closely, you'll hear 2 other "pops" before he even blows the bubble. it sounds like its just someone clapping and one lined up with the bubble popping.
i was watching a video of danny carey and everyone was talking about how incredibly amazing he is, but it's like all drummers like that do is play randomness as fast as they can, but carter makes a drum solo into a song by itself
@800adam008 .....I don't know which Danny Carey vid you saw, but that's definitely not his style. Thrashing is not what he does, that's for Joey Jordison and other speed-freaks to handle. Every Danny Carey solo I've seen has been creative and original without losing the feel of the beat of the song, something that Carter does too, just in another style.
I never liked dmb, but this man IS BADD!! And for the drummer debate, all the greats, buddy rich, carter beaufort, danny carey, chris adler, you could argue that they are the best at what they do.As a musician Ive never seen it as a contest, just certain people are a cut above.
Just came here directly from the Neil Peart drum solo on "YYZ". I like this one better, simply for it's understated voicing. There's a part in YYZ where Neil is simply pounding the hell out of his snares, while Carter uses multiple voices when he plays. I find it to be more technically and sonically interesting.
@timpicks20 Dude check out all of Buddy Rich drumming. Unreal. You've most likely watched Neil Peart's "El Batterista" solo. Gotta check that out and his tribute to Buddy Rich. I more like YYZ for the guitar solo. Then if you like Bass guitar check out Vic Wooten.
For years I thought CB played those quiet, drifting-off notes actually quietly, softly, with minimal hand motion. But this video shows him playing those "quiet" notes actually at Forte power (or more), meaning that the "trick" of his apparent quiet playing isn't going from ppp to f, but going from f to fffff, "turned down" by side effect of recording technique.
@33rdPatriot In reply to that man, for studio work, carter would obviously ghost his notes properly, go watch some of his studio videos. He achieves that without adjustments to the recording. But when playing live you need a totally different feel, and ACTUALLY playing the notes that ghosted would be harder to mic, and wouldn't impart as much energy into the song. It just shows how versatile of a musician he is.
@33rdPatriot watch number 41 from his DVD. he does very nice ghost notes on that song and its allhim no tricks. He can be really gentle, but most drummers just do nuts when they play live
