  • What was England like at that time

  • The Romans had every right to expand into Britain, it was an island full of barbarians that Rome colonized and brought into the modern world. And if yous say something like "why didn't Rome peacefully do it" or something, that's the barbarians fault. They attacked anyone who tried to expand at all. And, if it makes you feel better, the barbarians did take Rome later on. Oh and for the dumbass that was screaming about the black guy, it's called a slave dumbass, Rome had alot of them.

  • Am I the only one who thought of Star Wars when he shouted "It's a trap!"

  • One of THE best movies of the decade, if you haven't seen this movie, see it! I just watched it again and it's flawless.

  • thumbs up if u dun find a torrent fa this movie

  • The concept good but storey was a little flat, I do like some of Neil Marshall work.

  • wait, the romans were the bad guys here right?but yet the movie's making them the good guys?wtf??

  • @RaYk1LL3r your wrong. watch the movie its awesome

  • @catsalwayswin so,the romans ARE the bad guy right?

  • @RaYk1LL3r No, They are just a big empire, they did some bad things...but thats what all empires do

Roman empire was the worlds greatest empire

  • really... a black guy? Where the FUCK did the black guy come from in the roman empire? fucking hollywood and the jews...

Where's the Chinese guy? Where's the Hindu? Where's the Korean? What about the Aztec Romans? What about the Roman Legions who served the empire from wheelchairs? we cant get away from this fucking multiculturalism.

  • @ambagoli21 Calm your tits.

  • Comment removed

  • @ambagoli21 Idiot, Roman empire captured parts of NORTH AFRICA... thats where he probably came from

  • @ambagoli21

The guy said he was Numidian...Which was somewhere in the northern Africa. They've also found the remains of African roman soldiers as far as Hadrian's Wall in Great Britain. So it's not "multiculturalism", it's history.

  • After watching this, I figured out it would have been more apprpriat if the movie was from the point of view of the Picts. The Romans invaded, the Picts fought for their homeland and kicked the Romans out. Rome was the aggressor.

  • its stupid film i have DVD

  • great, now i gotta go find dividednations comments

  • Was Marcus Aquila a real person or was it just fiction?

  • Was Marcus Aquila a real person or was it just fiction?

  • Is this or THE EAGLE better???

  • I'm so fucking happy that the blonde bitch got stabbed in the eye... She really pissed me off

  • Up to 0:18 it was good.

  • lol black roman

  • Comment removed

  • sorry about interrupting all these historical discussions, but this video really needs a typical actor-praising comment - Michael Fassbender is so damn hot here! and never knew he played in this! :DDD

  • that was stupid

  • i dont remember any army was leaded by a woman in that century !! =D

  • @awesomeazoz Actually, women held roughly equal status with men in Celtic Briton. Look up Boadicea, she was ruler of the Iceni tribe in the first century and nearly managed to drive the Romans out of Briton.

  • lol what does a black guy doing in this film O.o

  • @geri465 he was a criminal in africa and a marathon runner so he ran away to Rome.

  • @geri465 The romans recruited many different races into their army from all over the Empire and outside of it including Germans and People from African countries.

If they had relied only on Italians they would have run out of men many years earlier.

  • IT`S A TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • An embarrassing piece of nonsense that has no basis in any historical & political reality. Pre-Roman Britain was a backwards place notable for only its extremely bloody clan warfare. Some of the changes Rome enacted: courts, roads, &trade. As for the its idiotic political commentary: did the Picts blow up the Senate building? The Picts lacked the weapons and discipline to fight a legion. The 9th? Ordered to and disbanded in Holland.Thankfully, this garbage put a stop to Neil Marshall's career

  • @monstered66 monkey.

  • This movie reminds me of what Machievelle used to say.

"All men should be treated generously, or completely & utterly destroyed, because they will take revenge for slight injuries: for heavy ones, they cannot."

  • because a culture is diferent than yours it doesn't mean that they were "idiots". They killed a cuple of mens for the gods, and so what, we have thousands of years of christians killing millions of people, if you ask me, we ARE the idiots of the universal history.

  • IT'S A TRAP !!!

  • sure Alexander the Great was a killer but how else will u go to india?and don't tell me anything about gays today we are not far from them so?i'm Greek and i'm proud for my history what are u?be proud of it tnx

  • u try to explain with today's ethics an era of the past in fact before Christ (Greeks and Romans) and right after good luck also who told u that today after 2500 years things have changed?still 10-20 people run countries and all of us are slaves, still Christians say that if u don't believe in them u will burn in hell so what is the difference?the difference is....medicine,science,theaters, philosophie, art, even the One God came from ancient Greece

  • Thumbs this comment up if you think dividednation44 does not know anything about history!

  • so much history debate, but what about the perfomance of the actors?

    Michael fassbender ftw :)<3

  • screw them they killed Jesus!!

  • @monstered66 I could say "Screw christians they burned thousands and thousands of innocent people" Roman empire was one of the most modern civilizations in old ages, i dont care about who they killed. They were amazing.

  • @monstered66 screw christianity, they made europe a religious shithole for the next hundreds years. brought suffering, misery and death to many people who did'n deserve or need it.

  • @dividednation44 You are mentally retarded. Without Christianity, we would have lost even more technology and history than we did from when Rome fell. Considering only monks could write, almost all of what we saved was saved by Christian monks.

  • Great movie. Michael Fassbender was excellent, and it aesthetically depicted Roman-occupied Britain and guerilla warfare quite well.

  • i`m wondering, did romans ever conquered or defeated the Picts or they withdrew from britain

  • @19ididyourmom Well the Picts never defeated the Romans and the Romans never defeated the picts. They built Hadrians wall to help keep some of northern England And Scotland out because they could never defeat them.

  • why does this remind me so much of taking arrows to the knee.

  • Admiral Akbar? 0:25

  • IT'S A TRAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • DAMN IT!! what's dividednation44's comment??!

  • @voniak289 i said that the britons were a pack of barbarian freaks who liked death and sacrificed humans to their gods (which they were) but appearantly a bunch of proud "britishers" got mad

  • This isn't a discussion forum. I like that the community takes part in intellectual discussions, but this is YouTube. And remember; don't shoot the messenger.

  • lol, there is a black? Right, hollywood, they have to put a quota.

  • @OKaneXI well carthage was part of the roman empire he coudve joined the roman army....

  • they deserved a better trailer!

  • Olga can pull off heavy eye make up really well, its suits her.

  • stupid.. the "barbarians" where the "good guys" in history ^^

  • @666DarkTommy Really, how so? Their actions were easily as questionable as the Romans.

  • Were there many black ppl during this time? @ 1:38

  • @disjointskunk nope... those that were black were usually slaves or gladiators. they put a black guy in the film so people didnt get pissy and didnt call the director a racist i would imagine

  • @disjointskunk Nope - mostly slaves - and not many of those were taken to serve the legions - were definently not soldiers

  • @jomfrublod hey fool, correct your facts please, roman legionaries were full roman citizens with roman citizenship, and that was a MUST requirement, so dont come saying shit like "oooh those were black slaves taken by force to serve the legions" cuz there was'n any blacks back then, they were still living in caves back in africa, the chance of seeing a black in africa was once every 20 years, if free blacks were to serve the roman army, they would've been auxilia, NOT legions

  • @dividednation44 When did I ever say anything about the blacks serving as legionaires and besides if they didn't compromise on the fact that there where no black slaves at the time how the fuck do you explain the black actor?

(what did I ever do to you)

  • @jomfrublod you did'n do a thing but you DID say that blacks were taken to serve legions, and btw, this movie is called "TV" and "entrtainment, for fucks sake thats why there a black actor

  • the 3000 men werent so unstoppable after all .XD.

  • that the british druids used human sacrifice is currently under debate. it is likely propaganda conjured up by desperate catholic priests to help stop its influence in the region... and to create an excuse for rooting out and executing druid priests. i am reminded of the spanish inquisition.

  • was into this untill i realised the invading roman army was being shown as the good guys and the defending britons bad guys, i hate it when films based on little and misguided fact make it big, coz simpleminded people will watch this and an important part of british history will be muddied ¬_¬

  • @ulexite Rome like it or not was responsible for civilizing Europe, and after its fall all of Europe fell into darkness. It took hundreds of years for people go back to having things that Rome made standar, like roads, aqueducts, democracy, etc.

  • @LockonStratos21 Civilization through conquering is still pretty shitty, just so much was lost. the britons were un civilized when compared to the roman concept of civilization yes. but they had there own culture and civilization that worked and im proud to have them in my heritige, im just offended that they can get away with showing the underdogs defending there land as the bad guys, its just not right to me.

  • @LockonStratos21 The people of the middle ages considered themselves far more advanced and modern than any people who had come before them, hence the reason why the term " dark ages" is now frowned upon. Rome offered many advancements to civilization, but it was the combination of these with the rediscovery of Ancient Greek texts and adoption of science from the Arabic world that really shaped our world. The people of the Middle Ages combined these marvels, and started the road to modern times.

  • @SwapMeetFlea

No. The term "Dark Ages" is related to the fall of Rome. Rome being the "shining beacon of civilization" in contrast to the rest of the world that was inhabited by "barbarians".

That's just the terminology though. And I agree with the rest.

  • @LockonStratos21

    and buildings made of stone...

  • @ulexite The Romans were not shown as good guys in this movie, watch it before you judge it.

  • Why do people keep using words like "barbarians" and "savages" like this is 1662?? The Picts were a society of indigenous farming people, who obviously were also skilled and passionate fighters when called upon to be so. Living in the Scottish Highlands ( even today if you're not in a town) is tough and it will make you hardy! So, it's not surprising that the Picts and later the Scots were/are rather tough! Also, to those who defend Rome, it is important to remember that anyone who was not(cont)

  • @SwapMeetFlea born in Rome was considered a "res", meaning "thing", and not a human being. No, the picts would NOT have been better off had they surrendered. They would have been enslaved and never considered human again. The Roman brought an incredible culture to the world... but it was only for Romans.

  • is this movie good or not

  • @cierorecarnated yes it is

  • Comment removed

  • rome changed the face of our world with there unyeilding cruelty. its quite admirable.

  • really good movie.....must watch !!!!!!

  • Look up "Battle of the Teutoburg Forest", will shed some light.

  • "IT'S A TRAP!"

  • One of the most annoying ads ever!

  • IF THERE SOULDIERS OF ROME THEN WHY DO THEY HAVE ENGLISH ACCENTS??

  • @nayaent havent you notice most romans have an english accent on movies??

    lol

  • @goggloski YEAH... SOMETIMES THEY HAVE AMERICAN ACCENTS TOO :D

  • @nayaent u wanna be the perfect actor and play in the perfect movie ??

    go make your own movie

  • @nayaent Because when its done in the 'proper' language people complain that they have to read the subtitles....

  • likelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelikelike

  • I like this movie

  • This movie was really very good!!!!! And the best part was...they used only hot gals in this movie.....the actress playing ethan is way more hot here than when she acted in quantam of solace....

    but thats just my opinion.....

  • Why do people keep saying british it was the scots they were fighting, the english and welsh were conqured in no time, the scots were the only hard enough people in britain to kick their ass they always have been!!

  • @The1stClan the Picts arguably were British as well. The Scots lived in Ireland at the time (the Romans called Ireland Hibernia or Scotia and what is now Scotland they called Caledonia. The Scots, or Gaels, came later, according to legend founding the Kingdom of Dalriada in what's now Argyll, even later they united with the Picts to form the Kingdom of Alba (or Scotland in English). The point is that nobody knows what kind of language/culture the Picts had, but it may well have been British.

  • @The1stClan This would make sense seeing as the word British comes from the Roman word for the island of Britain, Britannia, which comes from the Greek word Pritannia, which possibly comes from the Gaulish or possibly even the British themselves (the Greeks or Phoenicians at least got tin from Cornwall, so they at least knew of the Britons). The idea of Britain was not invented when the Scottish & English parliaments amalgamated in 1707 or when James VI of Scotland became James I of England &

  • @The1stClan Ireland. The idea of Britain, as a geographical term at least, is older than the ideas of the territories of England, Wales or Scotland. That's not to say that I support the present British state.

  • @The1stClan NO they where fighting Picts who where germanic. The Scots where still in ireland at this time modern scots are descendents from the irish Scoti tribe who crossed over and wiped out the picts.

  • @The1stClan England didnt exist at this time - niether did Scotland. British is the correct term.

  • @L36Bruno yeah thats true scotland and england didnt exist as a country at the time but they were very much different people with differnt back grounds, hell the romans knew the difference, one of the whole reasons hadrians wall was built to keep the scots out of their empire, the romans did fear the scots.

  • Hahaha scots kick ass at fighting, Romans come across conquering and civilising conquering and civilising, get to scotland and say EHH BUILD A WALL.... the romans feared our big ginger men :D

  • @The1stClan Picts the scots where a tribe from ireland.

  • @JordoF6 The picts were the early name for scots and in scotland they were called clans not tribes and youre telling me scots werent even in scotland durinng that time WTF mate scottish people go back to prehistoric times like 10,000 years ago, so if think scots werent their a mere 100 AD then youre and idiot, it was actually scots fighting romans basically!!

  • @The1stClan No no you don't understand what i was saying the modern scots are not picts 90 percent of their dna is of the SCOTI tribe from ireland who crossed over and killed most of the picts and formed the kingdom of Dal riata. The guys in this movie like i said are picts who called scotland caledonia at the time.Scotland literaly means ireland in the roman tounge thousands of Scoti tribesmen like i said wiped the picts out.

  • @The1stClan

It is wrong to say they were Scots because there was no Scotland back then. They are the forefathers of Scotland, sure, but to say they were Scots is wrong.

  • These are the Picts but Scotland would get its name from a tribe from Ireland or Hibernia(Land of Winter).

  • They are the Germanic Forces.

  • @iTzTehYezzy lol they aren't germanic...they are the natives of ancient scotland, the original inhabitants.

  • Watch "The Eagle"

  • Song at 1:57¿

  • 321 ogląda klan pedały

  • LOL

  • Thumbs up and I am Scottish!

  • No, Septimius Severus was not a nigger! He was descended from the Phoenicians as was Hannibal who are middle eastern people! No nigger was ever emperor of Rome.

  • @haywood214 I know it scares you, but its the truth Im afraid.

  • IT´S A TRAP!!

  • @UnchainTheW0lv3s You weren't messing your were just trying to be a smart blue ar$e :)

  • @UnchainTheW0lv3s -Paint your bum blue! -I think if you read again what I put it is no different from what you are claiming I don't know about! -I said they were tribal and that is why the could not fight the Romans and although they were just as disciplined their tribal settlement meant they could not take on a single disciplined Roman Army. Mind you your claims that they were naked is way off the mark.Although it was warmer then it wasn't that warm..

  • How well could these romans speak english with this awesome british accent :))))

  • Thumbs up if your British.

Thumbs up if you watched it because of Sam from Kidulthood/Adulthood

Thumbs up if you are awesome

And most of all, thumbs up if you hate idiots that do thumbs up comments :)

(Hope y'all having a good boxing day)

  • FUCKING ADVERTISTMENTS

  • commercial are stupid u fucking idiots

  • The Picts r Scottish this is when there was no fucking such thing us Britain so please stop saying Britain

  • Stop these god dam advertisements!!

  • yo dawg, i heard you hate watching advertisements while your watching advertisements, so here's some advertisements to watch while your watching your advertisements.

    problem?

  • Movie no problem. This trailer. . . Wont watch it because it has a advertisement. It,s a f**king movie trailer, an advertisement for a movie so IGN wants us to watch advertisements for advertisements

This has got to stop. Now.

  • I used to be a pornstar, then i took an herpes on my balls.

  • 0:24 Admiral Ackbar : Its a trap!!

  • I used to fight against merciless armies. But then I took an arrow to the knee.

  • It looks like a lousy movie version of Rosemary Sutcliff's 'The Eagle of the Ninth'. Where the fact that the Romans were an INVADING ARMY that maaaaaaybe the Britons had the right to not want around is actually, you know, a thing.

  • @botanygriffin87 it shows thats the romans had it coming...

  • @wolfdragga The movie?

  • @botanygriffin87 yes forgive my late night typing, The movie shows that as ruthless and merciless as the picts were, the romans had invaded their country, raped, pillaged and tourtured. You came to care about the small group of the ninth that survived, but they didn't show the picts as the villans either.

  • Im playing the skyrim theme over this trailer lol

  • the trailer pretty much summed the whole movie, what a spoiler

  • Puto anuncio de mierda y me refiero a la propaganda.

  • such an awesome movie!

  • the celts were lame. truth be told, they weren't a very hard civilization to conquer for the Romans. the Romans were the greatest civilization and the prize of Europe.

  • @conday1990 Hold on, If they weren't a hard civilization to conquer, how come they only got as far as Carlisle?

  • @conday1990 -The point is the Roman soldiers were a fighting unit and disciplined and although the Britons were probably just as disciplined they were most definitely not an organised enemy as it was very much a tribal disjointed system. This made them weaker and was no doubt exploited by the Romans.

  • @Fartsurmonde you really don't have any idea, do you? the picts were not disciplined, not in the slightest form possible. they fought as tribes, each under their own banner, and although my history is a bit sketchy, I'm fairly sure they only ever caught under a single leader in a select few confrontations.

many of said picts would run at the enemy upon sight, and they would fight without order or rank, it was pretty much every warrior fighting for their own honour, and that of their tribe/chief.

  • Sam would take a baseball bat to the battle.

  • Romans brought peace and order to a brutal world and normally would allow a local people to keep there own beliefs and even allow most regions to govern them selves with maybe a single or a few roman digitaries. The barbarian hords were much much worse and divided. Romans brought us many things we take for granted in the modern world such as proper roads and sanitation.

  • I don't know about you, but i instantly though of ''The Eagle'' when this appeared ;)

  • an action movie without a love story just genuinly bores me :/

  • @hellexistsidiots actually the love story is the biggest bore ever

  • Good brutal movie, but stop making the Romans look like the hero's --_--

  • @Lionheart1188 yeah, it's not like there would be no such thing as western culture without them!..... oh wait..

  • @MaxInRealLife Lol yep

  • @Lionheart1188 But they were, they advanced human technology like no other. a lot of there ways still run today.

When the roman empire fell, so did technology and advancement, the human race stalled.

  • @IRoosterManI Yes they did, but they slaughtered many nations for the so called glory of their empire o_o, it's been many centuries later and look at humanity, we still kill & fight each other --_--

  • @Lionheart1188 so what your saying is there like every other race to ever live?

Man kind is barbaric. not just the Romans. So i have no problem with them being portayed as heroes in the movies.

in many ways they were heroes, and we wouldn't be where we would be today without them. and we would still be killing eachother even if they didnt exsist.

  • @IRoosterManI Yeah, maybe your right --_--

  • A merciless army? The Britons were fighting for their own survival as an independant nation. They loved their queen. The romans could have tried just not invading another nation if they didn't want war.

  • @hang1iderswing could say the same about afghanistan, viet nam, tibet, North America, South America, Ireland, Scotland etc etc

  • @hang1iderswing You know the Romans, just couldn't help themselves, lol!

  • @hang1iderswing one could say the same about 20th century Brits, what with their stupid empire. both the Britons and Romans were merciless, dont even try to defend one over the other.

  • Comment removed

  • @hang1iderswing the britons were'n a nation idiot, they were a pack of freaks & stupid savages and barbarians like everyother barbarian across europe, "merciless army" they take credit for 80% of the bog bodies (druid ritual sacrifices) found today

  • @dividednation44 Freakish to us and barbaric maybe, but certainly not stupid. Our ancestors survived against extreme odds while we live in comparative luxury.

  • @NobodyTossesADwarf91 well the romans and greeks survived in extreme odds and overcame and exploited them into civilization instead of living like shit until the 1600's, the germanics & britons & gauls have had a few couple things in common in their day-to-day lives (including rape, brutally sacrificing people to their gods, killing, death, looting) the romans were probably even more advanced & civilized then all of europe in the medieval ages.

  • @dividednation44 the Romans sacrificed too! Plus they invaded and conquered - thus murder and the theft of land. Of course they were more advanced - but they couldn't take Scotland.

  • @dividednation44 The Britons were not freaks and stupid savages. They did not try and take over all of Europe (like the Romans did) and their way of life was not barbaric. They did do sacrifices and stuff like that , but they sometimes outsmarted the Romans using Guerilla warfare and hit and run tactics. They were definitely not freaks.
