I just bought a yamaha yhr-668N last summer. It was the same make and model that I used in high school. I just felt a connection with the horn, you know? Just giving you some advice, never buy a horn that you don't absolutely love.

But nice video though, it wasn't perfect, but like....I always screw up so I'm far from perfect myself lol. I wanna start putting more of my french horn videos up! :) I just have a soli rip on my channel from a song I played in high school for our competition.

Well, I'm a freshman horn at my high school and I've played since early 7th grade and let me tell you that it is still hard for me to play. It is a very temperamental instrument, so depending on your determination it could take a while. My section leader is crazy good, but he still messes up a ton.

@Zacharias6 I wasn't contradicting myself. People aren't perfect. No matter how good you are, you're always gonna mess up. And yes, in fact he is insanely good. One doesn't get accepted into a state honor band and get music scholarships to a college if they suck.

There's a trumpet player who is the son of my high school band director and he is so freaking amazing, and yesterday, he slipped up a few times on his five-page piece. It's natural..and this guy making this video is great, he just needs to practice a little more. Nice comment zacharias6 :)

Your schools horn is like heaven compared to my schools! Ours sucks it has dents everywhere and sounds like hell and is hell to play!

@karebear200 it depends on which spot that can be straightened. The mouth piece dents are usually at the hole at the back, it's quite easily dented there. It can be straightened using a mouth piece straightener.

@09crafty09 John Williams wrote that part for the French horn section, and several others (three different instruments open with the theme, each repeating it - the celesta, the flute and the horn), but through much of the piece the French horns hold down the main theme.

William is known for his prominent use of the horn, from Star Wars to Harry Potter. He seems to have a love affair with the instrument.

Overall pretty good, but something bothered me, your posture is terrible, horn off the leg, if they taught u diffirent, i apoligize, also you need to lean into the french horn and you should be slightly angled to 1:00, still, im not gonna judge ur playing cuz i thought it sounded great:)

@Gruntwithgun You are really good at french horn! I play bass clarinet and contra alto and it is a hard song. I still can play it though. I play by ear. So if i hear something or remember what it sounds like i just play it. Like on the piano. i never have practiced pirates of the carribean but i just started playing it... but you! french horn is hard to play! compared to some other instruments! @Gruntwithgun I agree that the quality sucks. :( When you try to switch the notes, the notes sort of had that bubbly sound. To get a better quality sound, you should carry it instead of putting it on your lap. The sound really changes. :)
