the first time I heard it it was in the movie 'Le Concert" (sorry i dunno the name in English) anyway i saw it in theater and when I heard it, i was on the front row, i completely forgot the rest of the world, i really never felt like that before, i can't explain it it was...! i think i'll always remember this moment, and i'm really glad i never heard it before this very moment !! a real piece of heaven! i mean i cried! i never cry!

Yes, the film 'The Concert' is funny and a great introduction to the genius of Tchaikovsky. I love this version by Antal Szalai. If it doesn't move you heart and soul, then you are not human. I can't get enough.

This is already slower than that of Heifetz ( on same you-tube platform).

Tchaikovsky Violin concerto was always criticized as not so beautiful and yet people like it very much because of that -not showing the beautiful tone of violin but the thrust instead.

he has no sense of climax nor does he play it in the Russian style. He does have a nice Oistrakh like tones but that is not enough. He just doesn't have a sense of drama either. It's too timid soft playing.

There are tons of violinists who won competitions, and they're all technically good. But I think Antal Szalai has something special. You can feel it even from the first sound he produces.

Contrary to your beliefs, those notes are sixteenth notes. If he slows down too much, he will ruin the rhythm. Jascha Heifetz played it like this too.
