can someone explain ,. im getting my 04 sr5 4 runner tomorrow. i heard the drivetrain runs at like 60/40 rear to front, so if it does this in 2wd wouldnt it be almost like an AWD system when you are just in 2wd? and if so locking in 4H would do what exactly, lock both front wheels, or put some kind of limited slip engaged in the front? would love someone who knows what they are talking about to explain all this to me, and does the fj have a rear diff lock, or is it a center lock as well?
I wish so bad in Canada i could get a 4 Runner or an FJ with something like a 4 cyl turbo deisel, that would be such a perfect engine for those vehicles!!! Saw an old 92 Landcruiser for sale with a 4 cyl TD, must be a great vehicle.. Great gas mileage, plus lots of torque!
@afghi420 I know... why don't they sell them in the us and apparently canadian markets? Diesel is where it is at. everywhere else in the world has them but us.
hey, Ive go a lifted 2wd truck. I know 2wd sucks in snow. But what can I do to increase my tracktion in deep snow. I do actually fairly well in fresh snow even with a hill. I had a locker, but got rid of it because it was a bitch on dry pavement. Ive got mud tires, and a 3 inch lift. I want to do stuff like this.
@03Ranger4x2 Well, you can put ESP and Traction Control in your truck, actually a VDIM system will do. That means: ABS,VSC( aka ESP),TRC and ASC and that will have perfect handling on snow and ice, but why instead of getting all these go for the cheaper option and convert your truck to 4WD?
@03Ranger4x2 A ranger is not going to get out of that if it doesn't have 4wd. I don't care what you do to the thing. You could have the best traction control and 2wd and still not go anywhere in that type of snow conditions. so i think we all agree weld the backend and put manual lockers on the front. and convert the thing to 4wd. or you could just get a stock toyota and beat the hell out of it and save the ranger.

I've got 4x4, lockers front and rear, and 37inch MTR's. 2 wheel drive isn't going to get you out doing this.
