eddie cochran is the man, not elvis, and as far as i'm concrned eddie didn't get the recognition is so wll deserved..at least not here in vancouver cda. this is not one of my favs by eddie but it's alot better than many of those top 10 hits elvis had on the charts back in the doowop era!!
I performed this in 1968 in my kindergarten class for music expression. I turned down the lights. And turned on a 3 color wheel for silver x-mas trees. stood on the teachers desk and shook my ass off. Wow that was fun!
This is a real mover, I can see everybody jiving around on the dance floor, bumping into one another..you need a mighty large floor to truly jive to many Rockabilly songs.. I like the lyrics..."a body like frankenstein" & she's still red hot. I needed to hear this after getting upset watching videos on the mediterranean crisis, By the way never heard this song before but I am familiar with Ronnie & Down in the Alley. Thx4 posyin'
er...just if anyone was wondering...the original was by Billy Lee Riley. But, has been covered a copious amount of times. Generaly, with the covers being more popular than the original. Hence the trouble in naming its origin...
Robert Gordon did a version with Link Wray. But this one is the best because of its pumpin', hammering piano-part. Savage and crude. Fabulous Fifties!
I couldn't recall Robert Gordon's name at the time I posted, but yeah, that's right. I thought the "doodily-squat" lyric was a bit silly too. In Rockabilly, the more raw it is the better, and Ronnie Hawkins' version is raw - really great. Rockabilly is big in NL as well as some other Northern European countries I have noticed. Brian Setzer is big there too - and Japan.
Robert Gordon went on tour with Danny Gatton one day and they did a version that burns the roof of the house. It´s on the cd ´The Humbler´. Check it out if you can. I lost my copy, unfortunately.
Hi Peter, fancy running into you here! I agree, Billy Lee adds something with "your gal ain't doodly squat" Some piano, huh? JLL would prolly be thumbs up on keyboard.

Is this with The Band?
frederickus 9 months ago
@frederickus Probably. With the 1959 version of the Hawks, that should have been the Proto-Band.

This is great. Link Wray did a version in the early '70s, but this seems raw and original.
