  • that was an allsome video winds that are 80 to 90 mph is like a hurricane. that sucks that your fence got blown down. i seen winds 50 to 65 mph nice video dude.

  • Great capture

  • Cumberland Head, close to the Cumberland bay market.

  • No tornado, just a very powerful thunderstorm with a downburst.

  • i reconize your voice, i also live in plattsburgh

  • Thank you everyone for putting in your two cents. To give some more background this storm was about 3 min long and did produce "swirling" winds. I was also contained to about the surrounding 25 or so houses on this one street on Cumberland Head about 3 miles from the Grand Island ferry. I was only able to catch about half of it on video and had limited area to shoot video, hence the fact you cannot see swirl. We get 50-60 mph gusts at this house about 5-7 times a year without damage.

  • That came 3 inches close to tearing up my house!

  • Hoopermazing. . . Your a dumb ass, perhaps you need to swing your judgemental tension on yourself considering you spell between as "Betwixt" you doofy bastard, i find it halarious the hypocracy is your only defense/offense in pathetic life, i know what you need to do! Practice yoga and shove your head up your own ass, not your mothers like you do on a daily basis, and swallow! LOL!!!

  • Oh by the way, that was a Microburst, not a Tornado, considering i work for the NWS., i noticed immediately there was no actual circulating winds of any sort that was observed, i did a little research on that particular storm inflow winds E22kts outflow RDF winds NW61kts 2500ft alt which will propt a tornado warning for an area "barely" this was a relatiely strong microburst only, be thankful that it was, if it were rotation the windows would have shattered with moderate sized debre., next

  • burnandbleed93. . . I used to live on Plattsburgh AFB., when i was a young child back in 1979 through 1982 as my parents were stationed there, i noticed you said ghost, and your not the first to say anything in that field, what did you expirience? As far as Plattsburgh AFB goes i missed the place in general a lot of my first memories took place there, now i live in southwestern Missouri for over 22 years, the only thing shitty was ghost on the AFB everything else seemed awsome at that time.

  • most likely a microburst

  • i lived in plattsburgh during that storm and i was 5 yrs old i didnt see much becouse i fell asleep hell my parents almost forgot my little brother in my house which was destroyed bye the way and on the same night i saw a ghost in my room

  • it was probably a storm that produced 80-90 mph

  • shoot

  • oh wow was there any damage

  • yea i was up in saranac when this happened

  • Actually, I DO have a clue as to what you think, and that clue is what you say. And by judging on what you said, you seem to think little of the guy who made this video for making it, which, unless you have low self esteem, means you think you're better than him. And, stop kidding yourself and pretending you never made an error when typing fast, it was an honest mistake. Also, I LOVE how you cover up the fact that you don't have a comeback for the rest of my post and try to cover it up.

  • Is this what passes for entertainment in Plattsburgh, NY? Go up to Montréal and live a little.

  • got a 107 kmph in a 65kmph work zone last time i went to the casino so no Montreal for me :))

  • I'm going to assume that you were joking.

I grew up literally a few feet from the Canadian border. So, I doubt that someone who lives as close to Canada as you do would make a boneheaded KPH/MPH mistake.

  • Geez, you're a littly snobby.

  • "Littly" ???

How is it snobby to suggest that someone living out in the middle of nowhere and amusing himself by filming the wind--who is but a stone's throw from bustling metropolis--might want to go up there and trip the life fantastic, i.e. eat some poutine and bang some Québécois pur laine chicks?

  • OH NOEZ I TYPOED HOW TARIBEL. Being a spelling nazi is fun! You seem to think you're better than him because he decided to tape a tornado (which is an interesting enough thing to tape, IMO). From the looks of it he didn't have anything else he could do, even if he lived in Montreal. It looked like the power was out and he obviously couldn't go outside. If that isn't being snobby I don't know what is.

  • You haven't a clue as to what I think, and the origin of your wild suppositions lie entirely within that putrid mass of jelly betwixt your ears.

Moreover, I don't believe that you made a typographical error at all. The "y" is nowhere near the "e." Sauf avis contraire, I'm going to assume that you're grammatically challenged.

The rest of your post doesn't merit anymore of a reply than this.

  • Also, I love how you try to act all mature on here, but then you comment on my page telling me to "fuck myself" like a 7th grader.

  • @Hoopskidoodle

canada sucks live a lil.... look who talking loool.. anyway

  • @bababooey7384 Eat a dick, asshole. By the way, I'm not Canadian. I don't know why you small town podunk idiots assumed that I was.

  • lol my entertainment is not in Plattsburgh NY bud.. Why don't you just come up to the country of NY, next to the Canadien border, Live alot, and work hard.. Oh I guess , You live a little because your just in the city.. Ya can't find better where I live in Ellenburg Depot NY..

  • Holy shit when did that happen?

  • lmfao @ their fence.

  • I can destroy these monsters...

and want to make my discovering in practice...

  • Plattsburgh won't waste their money on an outdoor warning system. They still have a few air raid sirens sitting around from the cold war that they don't use. All of the active sirens in Clinton County are for fire stations only, which is how I got my siren. Cadyville got a new one, and sold me their old one. Another fact is that we just don't get bad weather too often. Sirens are VERY expensive, upwards from 2 grand for the smallest one made, then you have installation fees and such.

  • I'm going to Plattsburgh NY on Aug. 30th hope weather is better than this!

  • wow u need to surch to find out it was a hail storm u r halarious

  • That wasn't a tornado as i searched the data up.

It was a hail storm was for so no tornado was seen, Hail, Damaging winds.

  • i was on my boat at the plattsburgh marina when this happened... it was scarrry i saw this big black cloud shoot up and then it was rainy and windy and awful

  • i notice when bad storms first arrive they always start out with explosive force

  • Hey your fence is gone.

  • dude when did that happen? i dont remember that, and i live in plattsburgh

  • wow.. that must of been SO freaky!!

I hate Tornados.. Even though I live somewhere where we DONT get tornados.. So, im safe!! :D

  • Great video. I'd say about 80-85mph.

  • i dont get it.

According to the National Weather Service and N.O.O.A., fROM 1950-1994 New York had 250 Tornadoes and Montana had 238 Tornadoes. Today, The Tornado Frequency has increased for everyone, including Montana and New York. Question: How come New York State has NO Tornado Sirens when they had MORE Tornadoes than Montana (a state that DOES HAVE TORNADO SIRENS)????

  • florida has alout of tornadoes aswell as hurracains too despite the fact that there have been many tornado outbreaks and deaths in central florida, county commisioners have debated and ruled that they were not going to install tornado sirens i think its basically cause thier too cheap!! despite the fact that we pay taxes for things like that if you really think sirens should be installed bring the idea up with the city maby if you get enough people to sign a pititon you miget sirens!!good luck

  • Holy crap!

  • is tjat a dog in the storm

  • i lived by airborn at the time and we had nothing like that where was that shot cumberland head

  • yes i agree weee aint got noo accent here in the pburgh lmfao

  • Stationed in P'burg 83 to 85 - had some odd weather and an earthquake while there including a storm as bad as that one, broke a ton of base housing windows. I have to agree the natives have really no accent, slight "eh" comes out with the older crowd from time to time but otherwise as normal as any other northern state. I'm from Chicago and had a way worse accent than anyone there. Anyone know Dirk Zwart from Beekmantown? He retired up there years ago. Nice area, little too cold for me

  • Tornadoes are not very rare in New York, They are seldom and occasanial. They usually happen in June, July, and August, and they are usually weak like the ones in Flordia.

You talk about Tornadoes being very rare in some area look at Israel, Guam, Alaska, Russia, Maine, Oregon, and Artic Canada!!!!

  • lovely atmosphere

  • I remember this..we had a watch didnt we? I live around the fingerlakes and I remember they told us to watch out for one

  • *most* people here in plattsburgh speak "TV" English, meaning no accent...

  • where's the plattsburgh accent?

  • people in plattsburgh don't have accents...

  • Unfoutunatly, after living in Rochester for 2 years, I have learned the Plattsburghians :) do in fact have an accent. its not quite as bad as the Beekmantown accent (5mi from pburgh) yet it is still there.

  • i have been here all my life.. never heard an accent here..i went to Beekmantown school and we have no accents...

  • yea we def dont ha i lived in plattsburgh all my life and go to school at beekmantown and have freinds+relatives across the us and we all talk the same. Amd yea i had fuckign soccer tryouts in that shit, it fucking sucked!

  • ur dumb. we dont have accents

  • nasty ass weather we had up here a few times...

  • Derecho or tornado, it's pretty ridiculous for Plattsburgh. Is this from Cumberland Head?

  • yes, I survived the "Ice storm of '97" wish i had some vidio of that

  • Oh man, that was wild. I was in eighth grade. I remember we made soft pretzels on our wood stove.

  • Too bad there wasn't an ice storm in 1997. The infamous ice storm was January of 1998.

And it's hard to believe the National Weather Service didn't classify this wind storm as a tornado.

  • @omnus4 Me too. Ice storm was crazy. Felt like "end of the world" type stuff. I know I will never forget it.

  • I agree that it i a derecho, but that makes it no (or maybe just a little) less spectacular.

  • those winds look to be about 50 or 60 MPH, ad that is most certainly a Derecho, not a Tornado ;)

  • Channel 5 news the NBC affilate is 2mi down the rd. they said winds were up to 85mph

  • .<b>that was wicked :-) glad nobody got hurt!
