  • Cad mics surprised me with their quality. Their e-70 sdc mike compared favourably to a Neumann KM-184 at one 7th of the price and it comes with a pad and a bass roll-off and an included shock-mount. Great h.h. mic! Anything that likes a sdc mic!

I bought it expecting it to be crap but it blew me away!

Now I'm buying some CAD M-179's at about $130 each for toms.

Not necessarily the mics but the preamps, the converters, the clock, the room, the engineer and the player could be most responsible

  • A lot of depends on the micing, i didn't know that. I just bought some CAD mics. They sound good, but not as good as yours. I would love to get my StudioMaple kit sounding that nice.

  • how did you get those toms sounding so nice?

  • Thanks for the comment. A good sound source is key. Taye StudioMaple provides that. Second is the quality of mic used. I prefer Shure's Beta98 on toms. Sennheisser's MD 421 does a great job as well. Good processing (compression, gating, and filters) does a good job too, but in this case, making sure the source is clean creates a world of difference.
