These look pretty good ! They look like they would do good against clothing and some barriers. I was iffy about unleaded ammo at first, but these may have changed my mind ? The only thing with the all copper stuff is they tend to be on the light side. A 124 gr variant of DPX would be nice to see, but may not be possible because copper is not as dense as lead.
Not sure I understand what you are testing for with Kool Aid Test and the dork on a ladder test. I do like the end results of showing the round. But shooting a round into a drum of water gives no real data.
@djt9000 None of these tests were ment to be anything but entertainment, although I tried to make them somewhat consistant. Our newer tests are a bit better. Take them for what they are and draw your own conclusions. BTW, I am the dork on the ladder in most of the vids....
@Captncronica I have not found that any +P ammo fouls more than standard pressure. It really depends on which powder the manufacture used mostly, but also the bullet construction. Lead rounds will often leave a mess more if not loaded to the right velocity or not the right hardness. Also, don't shoot lead out of a Glock since the barrel has poly rifling instead of land and groove. Stick with jacketed rounds for Glocks.
did the corbon dpx .9mm 115 gr +p's feed and work well in ur sigma 9ve?? If so im gettin em. Jus dont wanna get premium rounds and find out they dont feed well in my sigma
@mjames2666 Nobody said these test mean anything. Draw your own conclusions from what you see. They are for your info only. If you dont like them then do not watch.
"koolaid won't kill you" wow what a dumb ass neither will ballistics gel but that doesn't stop multiple police departments from using it as a test medium.
@andreleger2001 I'm dying to see how the effects of the .40 S&W CorBon DPX 140 gr. does......by chance would you be looking into testing those and posting the results of that test?
andreleger, good video series. I've done a little research myself and found that the 9mm DPX doesn't fully expand out of a 3" barrel. (Kel Tec P-11) In my milk jug tests I got the best results from Cor-Bon 115 gr. +P self defense rounds. Since many people carry smaller pistols, have you considered testing ammo through one?
@jwash3rd Hmmm every time i tested the DPX it opened up nicely, even out of my 2" snub. I have a Khar K9 that has a shorter barrel. I will see about retesting with that gun and see what happens.
@Nicho2177 I personally carry the Winchester Ranger-T Series 127 Gr +P+ in my 9mm when I carry that. HST is close second. These DPX's are third I suppose, but they are expensive in comparison. Of course that is my personal choice and it does not mean thats the end all comparison. You should always test a box or so to make sure they feed well in your gun in any case.
@Nicho2177 I think the Hornady Critical Defense rounds are not a bad choice in self-defense ammo. I just think there are better ones out there. All in all the bad guys will drop the same from a good center of mass hit regardless if the round expands .1 inches less than another type. Really my opinion is not as important as choosing a round that feeds reliably in your gun. I had a request for another test with Critical Defense ammo so its on the books for next time.
I got mine from two places: tds-us and ombexpress - both were great. You might also try ammuntiontogo, sometimes they have them. I have not yet found a source that has them in stock all the time at good prices.
I am a detective in Atlanta, GA. and saw an autopsy of a thug that was shot by an off duty officer that carried the DPX in a .45Glock and it retained 100 % of its wgt and the 1 shot which struck the thug in the chest had 1 hell of a wound channel and the ME said that that was probably the most devastating wound he had seen with pistol ammo, he wanted to get him some. I would say that is a pretty good observation on this round. It is what I carry in my Kimber 1911
Oh, and im refering to the gun being used in your video (S&W 9mm Sigma: 16+1 rounds). Im gettin one in October and, just wanted to better myself on a good carry Ammo. I had a .40cal that was good with SPEER and WINCHESTER rounds. 9mm? I want to try the Ammo 9mm +P Remington 124 Grains JHP Golden Saber.
So the barrel want take on much danage in the future?...i had a 12 gauge when i was about 5-6. Shot it once...the fucking barrel blew off on its first shot....lol
Depends on the gun, but any modern gun should handle +P rounds with no problem. Some manufacturers will tell you not to use them, but I find that there is not much difference between normal pressure rounds. They will 'cause accelerated wear' but on modern guns I would not worry about it. In 9mm, the SAAMI spec for a normal round is 35000 PSI for a +P round its 38500 PSI. Not a massive difference, but enough to warrant caution in older guns (like older than say 1950).
I dont have any DPX rounds except for the 9mm version at this time. I will keep my eye open for some and add it to the tests. I have 5 new loads to test so far for our next big test. We had to resched it though so we are looking at around July 10th for AT2 testing. I will see if I can get some more DPX rounds before then.

hey andre, can you test some of the dpx hunters in 185g .45 acp +p? I have a feeling they might be a good competitor with the hst/ranger t series

Is the lead free DPX a good self defense round?
jmkpns 2 years ago
I think it is an excellent round. Its just a bit pricy. For the price of 20 rounds, I can get 50 Ranger-T's or HST's.
andreleger2001 2 years ago
Do you know anywhere respectable to get Ranger T's online?

Most all 9mm loads are fairly light in recoil. This one did not stand out in particular.

I've heard good things about corbon dpx, but at 115gr +p it looks like the round isnt expanding fully. Maybe 115gr +p is too low.
