  • this is totally awesome!

  • Howard Freaking Jones, man. Talented, thoughtful, humble, best hair in the business, and cute to boot. AND STILL ROCKIN' IT ALL THESE YEARS LATER. I finally got to see him live last week and it was the best concert money I've ever spent. HOJO!!

  • loved this show,,,so far ahead... Peter Gabriel was right !!

  • hojo is madddddddddddd!!!! greatttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! love hojo

  • I had this tape back in the day! Howard Jones is awesome!!!! This is a very good live rendition.

  • FUCKING AWESOME SYNTHS USED BY A REAL PRO

  • was this in the apollo glasgow? he plays a scottish theme tune into the video. just wondering..cos i was there..

  • Please take note everybody on this master wizzard HJ - pure brilliant genius & way way ions ahead of his time, technically!!

No Auto-Tune or pitch correction software even existed at this time & he is perfectly in tune singing "LIVE"

Saw him live twice in 85 & 87 - flawless performer!!

  • say no more AWSOME

  • Immense song go Howard I will pay the fine.

  • one of his best tracks, synth is awesome.

when he gets going on the Moog.....

  • The video of this concert is what first got me fascinated with Howard Jones. What he does is amazing, and the sound is awesome!

  • I've seen HoJo in concert three times and this is by far the worst performance of this song I've ever seen. Was he sick?

  • (continued from previous post) You will notice he actually will end a keyboard part slightly early to manual change a patch or setting. Howard perfected this night after night for 4 years before this concert was recorded. So what you are watching is quite an orchestration of keyboard performance and manual switching of the repetitious bits. No backing tapes. Trust me, I've been trying to do this for years and Howard makes it look so easy but it isn't. He's just that good.

  • I quite agree. I don't know of any other musician as Howard Jones who can sing, operate synths and drum machines and think ahead at the same time to press buttons here and there without any aid. I remember being blown away by what I saw back then, even though Thomas Dolby was doing the same thing. I prefer this retro-set up compared to the stripped down modern day all-in-one rig's where everything is less tempramental.

  • The drum patterns are preprogramed into two EMU Drumulator II's as well as a Linn LM-2 drum machine(not sure on this particular video). The bass sequence and other single note sequences are preprogramed into a Sequential Circuits Pro One. Everything is routed together via MIDI. There for with a press of a particular button at the right time cues up the next pattern of drum beats and sequences. (more in next post)

  • Great song. I don't think even Howard could have been playing all the intstruments you can hear on this live. He must have had a backing tape of some kind.

  • I think he used some kind of preprogrammed sequencer and/or a drummachine to play the sequential parts. the lead synth ,riffs and base are played live.

  • I love it... used to sing this in the shower! ;)

  • He's a pure genius. We love you, Howard!

  • Wonderful

  • Great Video thanks.

  • This what syth playing all about fun :)

  • やっぱりカッコイイす!!

  • HE IS SUCH A GENIOUS, WAAAAAAY ahead of his time!

  • what a smart guy!!! Todays musicians rarely sing about such things and don't even have a bit of his greatness!

  • you said it!

  • Well your not.....your not who you think you are!!! hahaha i love his lyrics, so true

  • Welcome! Welcome!

    To Conditioning :)
