  • @NEEEECKZONEEE Panis et Circenses

  • Beautiful trailer, Jeff! I can hardly wait to see the movie!

  • Great Trailer !! That's how you make a great trailer, not with some thick voiced announcer idiot but with music, images & fast-cuting that serves a distinct artistic purpose instead of trying to hoodwink you.

  • Has the movie/documentary ever been released?

Seems not from googling. As a non portuguese speaker, I'd love to get a whole rounded account of the history of the band, much in the same way of 'the devil and daniele johnston' ...

  • just yesterday i´ve watched loki´, a documentary on Arnaldo...yes it has something to do with johnston ...i thought so too...take a look at it if your curious about it.

  • thanks mate, will look into it!

  • I also never saw it, but I saw last weekend a documentary named "Loki" about Arnaldo Baptista (the head of Mutantes). Really worthed! =)

  • Rita Lee, the female singer has had a very prolific career since then. I remember her from the 1980s and 90s. Her music hasn't stagnated one bit. She has adapted over the years very well.

  • @lsnows yes...who can't forget "Lanca Perfume" which was a MASSIVE hit in the Philippines during the early 80s

  • Where can I find the whole vid to watch?

(this is not a political oriented group.)

  • hurry up!!! I'm currently writing a term paper on the os mutantes and their political issues for my ethnomusicology class and jstore isnt helping!

  • They worent political. They transgressed on the behavior aspect, but they wore not political.

  • In a military dictatorship, transgression on the behavior aspect "is" political, willingly or not. (You must be Brazilian; I'm Spanish, and we did have a military dictatorship as well.)

  • @josesilva9910 leia sobre ditadura militar no Brasil 1964-1984.

  • @josesilva9910 You mean they were not propagandistic, right? Cause they were really political on their demeanor, their appearance, their name, the lyrics, the music, everything.

  • it never says when it's coming out. i would like to know, anyone?

  • It still hasn't been made unfortunately

  • @americangirl33 Do it sooooooonnnnnn, whoever's complilng it, p-leeeease...........Thanks for this upload, by the way. Loved 'em. Shame they had a dispute amongst themselves and split before receiveing the fame the group richely deserved.

  • whats the name of the song in the opening?

  • "New Pollution" from Beck's "Odelay."

  • Panis Et Circenses

  • good video

  • it's retarded to decide you like or dislike a group you've never heard before because of a 2 minute long trailer for a documentary about them. you probly listen to solja boy

  • Hey, listen you asshole;

how can you assume I never heard mutantes in my life? I know them very well (musicwise speaking)and even had a crappy album (tudo foi feito pelo sol) somebody gave to me that I threw in the carbage so bad it was. The original band was ok but it seems nobody else in the band could put up with this so-called "band leader". So, never assume anything cause it can make an ASS out of U and ME, get it? ASS-U-ME

I think you have had progress ... continue well...

  • release it already

  • Oh man, I can't wait! Eu quis cantar ... to everybody once this thing is released. Bring it on!!

Mamonas não é legal.fuck man !

  • When it will come out? *-*

    Quando que sai isso?

  • Ask Rita Lee...

  • This video is very creative, but it's message is a myth. The mutants never opposed to military dictatorship and their stance was not political, (alienated, until) only social and artistic, and their music irreverent and creative. (The source was beatles), which are present today. I love them, but I love "the truth", first.

  • Daniel,

Thank you for pointing out the obvious. I feel so enlightened.

  • Would love to see the full documentary. Keep up the great work. :)

Read in the newspaper this very morning about the documentary. It's been shown in Porto Alegre (South Brazilian city). Is this the same movie? I just thought it was very long released. Gotta download this.

  • excelent! very, very good

    the great band brazilian

  • EEEXXXCCEEELLLLLEEENNNTTTTTT!!!!!! i cant wait!!!!!

  • We are still trying to raise the money to make the feature length documentary

  • When will we see this docummentary? Greetings from Spain!

  • mas gaetano veloso!!!

  • oh man, where is the rest!?

  • oh...right..where's the documentary already?

  • i like the essays...keep em rollin

  • quando é q vai sair esse documentário?

  • Os Mutantes really grow on you. I play that one CD they made in 69 all the time, and never get tired of it. They make me wanna go to Brazil!! Can't wait to see the movie!!

  • What is this? An Os Mutantes documentary? Sweetness.

  • Really? All that time devoted to a hot air discussion? Whatever. Thoughts: excited about the fact that there is a documentary, worried about the lack of interviews in the trailer (a personal preference of mine), but hell, i'll buy it for all the cool live footage.

  • I just gave my opinion. And facts I went through at the time, and read, heard, saw about, from the time it was happening till today.

Didn't mean to disrespect the film maker-I would LOVE to see a movie like this, as an avid listener of Mutantes, Tropicalism and brazilian music in general.

Thought I could help, that's all.

  • Ok... enough with the essays....

  • About "doing it myself": I'm not a film make, nor want to be a film maker. Saying that is like saying "you don't like Beethoven's 5th Symphony? Than do a better one yourself". Films, music, artistic expressions in general, are created by 'artists' and are subject to the

criticism of the public, and not only of 'other artists'.

  • About the "names". It's just that people usually talk about Caetano and Gil as "fathers" of tropicalism (actually the idea really came from Gil, according to Caetano), and sadly the rest of great musicians, poets, entertainment figures, are forgotten. In my opinion a movie worth watching about the subject would have to avoid this simplification (that disturbs me especially about Rogério Duprat, the great arranger who is almost completely forgotten...).

  • And as far as you know, I could be Caetano Veloso himself criticizing this...This is internet buddy, chill out(and "far more subversive"? Who decides that?)

Elitism? Put Beck quotations (as far as I know, THAT is elitism...lets kiss the rich countries' asses). I just sugested that It would be more interesting to put other references. I even like a lot of Beck music (except Guero, that sucks).

  • As I said,Caetano had a subversive persona, but much more anarchic than socialist, and so wasn't necessarilly worried about criticizing the military government.Mutantes didn't even have this "anarchism" in the sense of criticizing the political reality of the country.

  • Hi 8against8

Good if you "know" them. Then, tell them not to write these "lies" I talked about in my previous comments. Caetano's "Verdade Tropical" is filled with this info,so is "A Divina Comedia" written by Carlos Callado, and "Tropicalista Lenta Luta" written by Tom Zé.Also documentaries like the one made by TV Cultura about Rogério Duprat (and about the Tropicalism),make this point very clear.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Mutantes, it's by far the best Brazilian rock band ever. I love tropicalist artists, especially Tom Zé, but all the others as well. I'd love to see a movie about it. But I also love all the other music produced here, and mistakes like these just make me sad...

Just giving my opinion: Study a (good) bit about it. If the trailer represents the movie... well...

  • Hi Giopagoda,

Sorry...but many of your comments reek of a faux intellectual snobbery and even contain traces of misguided elitism. 1) So what if there's a Beck quote in the beginning? Many people outside of Brazil discovered Mutantes through their love of contemporary American artists, so sorry if you can't accept this...

  • 2) You're flat out wrong about Tropicalia having no political purposes. Do you actually know any of the old Tropicalists? I do, and they would quickly correct your overly literal interpretation of what it means to be subversive. Yes, Geraldo Vandre may have been more direct in his protest songs, but the surrealist nature of Tropcialia was far more subversive..

  • 3) Movie trailers can only run for 2 or 3 minutes...it is impossible to list every single name of significance in that amount of time. As far as the "starring credits"...you are a supreme nitpicker. So what if the film states that it "stars Mutantes, Caetano, and Gil"? If you want to see a film that features more of Jorge Mautner, than make it yourself..

  • 3)"Starring mutantes, caetano and gil"?? In you video there are images of Tom Ze, Chacrinha, Gal Costa, bits from Glauber Rocha's movies, the other members of the Mutantes, Jorge Mautner, Rogerio Duprat... Do you realize how much GREAT material you probably have in your hands?

  • The Mutantes (or the other tropicalists) have NEVER been part of this group, on the contrary, they even absorbed the - at the time called - "imperialist culture" expressed by rock & roll. "Some still kept making noise"? That's right, some like Chico Buarque, Edu Lobo, Geraldo Vandré, Carlos Lyra, Theo de Barros... Maybe also Caetano (specially as a performer), but not the Tropicalism as a movement and certainly not the Mutantes.

  • 2) Tropicalism HAS NEVER HAD POLITICAL PURPOSES!! On the contrary, many artists criticized it when it appeared as "alienated" (even if it wasn't), and even the arrest of Gil and Caetano at that time was surprising (even for them...read about it!). There were a huge amount of musicians with political purposes, criticizing the military government and defending socialist ideals.

  • 1) Why this quote from Beck? So what of he likes it? Why non-american (nor english) cultural expressions need the "approval" of American (or English) artists to "worth" something? But if you still want to put quotes, there are many '"meaningful"' musicians (as well as Beck) who have talked about the mutantes: Kurt Cobain, Sean Lennon, Tortoise, David Byrne...

  • You're probably not Brazilian. If you are, that's just sad...

I sincerely hope this documentary is for you entertainment only...if not, you should at least research a little about our country's music and history before attempting to do something like this...

My opinions, listed in other comments

    (sorry if the seem harsh):

  • What a completely asinine opening statement to an endlessly irritating lecture. If you were actually trying to "help", as you say later, you'd do well to leave your pompous elitist tone behind.

"I sincerely hope this documentary is for you entertainment only..."

Unbelievable. Surely putting the potential film-makers 'straight' about a few points could be done in a slightly more affable way than the ungrateful conceitedness you use throughout your tiresome tirade.

  • tiresome, but you read it all and are still writting about it =P

    Hugs n' kisses buddy
