Why is changing yourself looked down upon?

If you don't change, that just means you haven't grown or learned new things. The people who come into my life influence me everyday and I learn from them. Theres no shame in that. I'm proud to look back at all the ways I've changed over the years. For example, I used to eat junk food just like everyone else, but now I've adopted a new healthy vegan diet! Change only means you've made progress. Hopefully in the right direction. (:

I understand what you are saying. I sorta agree because that's a very Western mentality. Eastern cultures traditionally focus more on the collective instead of the individual. sometimes getting good grades and staying out of trouble to make your parents proud benefits everyone, including the self.
