  • Micheal bevan the best !

  • low score win :P great finish!!!!

  • Unbelievable under pressure. Hairs still stand on the back of my neck when I see this!

  • fucking miss these days where cricket actually had atmosphere!! :((

  • I watched this and had (Channel 9 Australia Full Cricket Theme) in a new tab. Do it!

  • I remember when Bevan would pull the Aussies out of the shitter all the time. Provided some great moments like when he saved then in the 2003 world cup against England

  • Michael Bevan. Favourite cricketer of all time. <3

  • never in doubt its michael bevan king of diggin australia out of a hole and timing a run chase to perfection

  • Remember this like it was yesterday. Wadda baws.

  • Bevan us to be pulling us out of the shitter all the time in one day matches when we where in trouble or when things where tight.

    Always brought great entertainment.

  • this is when people gave a shit about one day cricket

  • Oh god still remember this, legendary moment. Bevan was a god damn legend.

  • "Roger Harper fields well to his own bowling" um I dont think so. He dropped a sitter return catch off Bevan earlier in the innings then tried to claim the catch. Bevan stood his ground shaking his head. Replays clearly showed the ball rolling out of Harpers hands and hitting the ground. He knew he dropped the catch but claimed it anyway. Needless to say Bevan was given not out and ended up smashing him for four off the last ball to win the game. Stick that up your ass Roger Harper!!!

  • best 1 day batsman we had. so consistent.great fielder too! other great batters/fielders

    dean jones and ricky ponting

  • How about the daggy or baggy clothing the Australian Cricketers had to wear haha

nearly as bad as the hair perms the guys & gals had in the '80s and early '90s

But a brilliant match all the same.

  • I was at this game!

  • wat about mcgrath to hit the single!?!?!?!! thats the biggest miracle

  • I dare say this would be slightly less exciting if anyone other than Bill Lawry was commentating

  • great match

  • I don't understand why there were no fielders out there??

  • Isn't it funny how some moments just stick in your memory?

I was only 8 when this happened, but remember being glued to the TV

    Thanks for uploading this.

  • @Jhantor1987 I was 16 and living in Australia when this happened. I am Indian but fell in love with the Australian cricket team since 1998 and to present and future.

  • You know when McGrath is on strike that it is gunna be tense! HAHA

  • One of the most memorable ODI innings I can remember.

    Bevo you legend.

  • Bevan, you fucking legend!

  • 2:18 for Lawry's ridiculously good prediction!

  • After this match everyone at my club went out and bought a puma bat.

  • Now this is cricket.

  • classic bill lawry testi-pop at 0:35

  • I love how the bowler gives him a high five @2.43

  • Hahaha lol the determined look on McGrath's face is priceless!

  • I remember this, it was back when people cared about one-day cricket...

  • @phunkyfeelone After the last world cup, they care again.

  • @Thetacticalcorner , wt still,. i dont understand wt u want to sy. anyway be happy my frnd.

  • @Thetacticalcorner buddy i was just kidding.. becoz ur comment was so funny. dont take it serious and chill my frnd.

  • @Thetacticalcorner

feeling sorry for u. u should not born. lolz

  • not do,t baven reat plyer odi

  • I remember being at a barbeque when this game was on, at the beginning of the Australian innings about 20 people were in the living room watching it. At 36/6 I was the only one, and I stuck with it till the end. When I went out and told everyone we had won there was just silence then many beers were drunk. Best post evveeerrr. Cricket sucks these days compared to this time.

  • @dessy116

    100% agree with you.

    i am from Pakistan

  • Courtney Walsh was the other person who didn't like the video.

  • 3:16 Historic Image

  • cool

  • These were the days when ODIs were really exciting, see-saw battles. Australia were all but out in this game and they only needed 173

  • Comment removed

  • Easily the best One Day Batsman of all time.

  • @aznfratboy more like the best one day finishers of all time.

  • Awesome left-arm legspinner as well.

  • Great effort by Bevan but lets not forget Pidgeon's incredibly clever nudge with his pads towards point for a single. Classy stuff.

  • This is my favourite ever mis-hit :-)

  • i remember in my childhood when we used to play those weird cricket card games bevan used to have the highest batting average than any other player on the cards

REALLY ONE OF THE BEST AUSTRALIA EVER GOT

  • Don't understand why Bevan wasn't picked for the all time One Day XI. I'm sorry, but you NEED him in the team, not as blooody 12th Man. :-|

  • I remember watching this game on the tele

  • Greatest ODI player ever.

  • He was the best player for any format of game. Far better than Sachin Tendulkar and who has most of his one day hundreds against minos. He was a genuine all rounder.

  • best 1 day player to wear pads for Australia

  • Roger Harper disliked this

  • @NorfBoy24 Roger Harper has disliked this 4 times so far

  • This is my fondest memory as a cricket lover.

  • Bevan = weapon

  • Bevan is one of my favourite players...Always dependable in a One day match...

  • haha 173?! shows you how much has changed in recent times. 173 is par these days in 30 overs. Hell it's achievable in 20/20- smaller grounds these days I guess and falling standards in bowling.

Still, take nothing away from Bevan- what an incredible player he was!

  • @cheeseymenolikey

The current aussie team wouldn't be able to make 173 these days

    lol

  • micheal is and always be the greatest one dayer player in my books

  • I was jumping around and screaming so hard when he hit that four. Most amazing effort ever! Bevan is a God!

  • This is awesome, he did it without a helmet to a West Indian bowler and pigeon up the other end. Champion.

  • @platinumare : watch again hes wearing a helmet.

  • Aah....the reaction to the victory was as cool as the winnings in itself..Just imagine if it was present day...the batsman would hav gone crazy and ran all over the place...the runner would go in some direction...whole team would run on to the ground and absolutely dont even think of the fact that some other team was playing the game as well..no complaints tho..victory is a victory and everyone has their own ways.. :)

  • on ya bev!

  • I miss those times, how good Australian and West Indian teams were, full of wonderful players, i wish this time could come back :(

  • Australia. Simply the best.

  • i work with alot of indians and from their view, they all thought Bevan was a genius. They regarded him as the best player to come from Australia. Yet us aussies did them a favour and dropped him. Shame on us (Aussie cricket board)!!

  • we need more cricket moments like this

  • bill lawry is better than tony greig, btw terrific stuff from one f the most reliable middle order batsman

  • thats my dad

  • @bffclub96cutiepies bullcrap!

  • @akatubyfreak123 Umm awks for you because he is... and mine... how embarassing...

  • @bevanheaven3398 umm awks for you , do you have evidence ?? no this video doesnt count because your not involved in it and how would i know what you look like???

  • @bffclub96cutiepies and mine hahaha Amelia i <3 you

  • Bill Lawry always seems to be commentating when extraordinary things happen in cricket.

  • Bill Lawry the man for the moment.

  • yes, he was the great one day player of all time, don't know why aus team selector

removed him from the team. I was the great fan of him.

  • Bevan was poorly treated by the selectors. He should have played more Test cricket than he did. The stuff about him not being able to play bouncers was exaggerated. I remember they wouldn't take Bevan to India (where they can't bowl bouncers) and instead took the young Ponting (who back then couldn't play spin).

  • @TheThirdUmpire and still cant....

  • 1:56

    Epic voice crack

  • Wow, this is great! Top quality video, too, unlike most of the other videos on YouTube! Thanks for uploading it!

  • Bevan can bowl, Bevan can bat, Warne can't do either coz he's too fat

  • Bevan became my favourite player after he hit this.. bloody legend!

  • these were the days when victory was hard for australia

  • man i love beverage

    wat a batsman....

this one guy at my school who was a good cricketer use to think bevan was a "selfish" player and it use to infuriate me, his argument was he played for 2's and singles and never hit boundaries < biggest wanker ever

anyway this innings and his innings of 105* i think it was were the best two games i ever did see so controled and measured.

  • Its highly unbelievable that the opposition captain failed to cover the straight boundary

  • This and Steve Waugh's last 100 bring a tear to my eye.

  • Aussie legend.

  • he personified the art of batting underpressure and securing victories in closely faught matches

  • I'll never forget this.

Bevan is a legand in Australian cricket, a pity he never got a proper Test career.

  • am a pakistani, but i have always said that u cant compare any1 with bevan, hes the best 1 day player ever, i agree tendulkar n all hit 100s n stuff, but this guy knows how to play one day cricket! he cums for sum tym, n just wins it for you :S its insane how australia dropped HIM. simply the best player, he hardly used 2 get out.. n he knows how 2 keep the scorecard ticking without taking risks. he was unique, after him cum all the great players for me.

  • I had a couple of mates leave when Australia were 6/40 - they got home just in time to see the winning runs!

  • Bevan should never have to pay for a drink again after that. Julia Gillard should make it a law instead of wasting time on education and the economy. Sickening.

  • In my opinion, Australia's greatest one day player. THE FINISHER

  • completely agree with u jamal. I believe he should have got the award for australias greatest ever one day player and not adam gilchrist. Don't get me wrong gilly was awesome but bevan was so consistent - scored a run a ball and saved australias bacon on so many occasions.

  • @userjeb1

Australia wouldn't have been dominant in the 90's if it wasn't for Bevan. Inspired a lot more batsmen than of Gilchrist. Gilchrist only started to inspire toward the late 00's. So I agree

  • sorry about the airport thing, mate had to get home to family

  • Brings back memories,

  • Yeh I was like 10 as well when i watched this, just a game you can never forget

  • what about the fantastic smash into the pads from pigeon to get off strke.

Bevo was always going to get those runs only ever saw him not win a close game once when he was in that sort of position

He was a great judge as what was required to win a close game.

    Bloody champion

we all have bad days at the airport

  • u are rit i will never compaire any other player with him even rocky aor suchan etc ...

  • hi. wow, i cant believe some cricketers are like that

  • the best left handed batsman ever

  • Absolute star that fella... what a night

  • This was the first cricket game I went to. Nothing has come close since

  • Who's the bowler. I used to love watching him bowl with that action?...hilarious!

  • he averaged like 55 didnt he? wat a finisher he was. decent bowler n good fielder aswell

  • what a terrible last ball. Why wouldn't you give him a yorker and make him dig it out again?

  • wow that would be a very nice night to celebrate!

  • too good

  • I remember watching this game, was an awesome moment when bevan hit that 4

  • bevan is simply a legend!

  • Man I miss him...I loved Bevan :( Now they are mainly a bunch of figjams.

  • hahahaha blow out by the commentator at 0:33

  • probably should have dropped a bit shorter for mcrath, cause anything full he was going to tap and run,

  • and you dont think if it was short he could tap and run?.....

  • true but a bit shorter would have made him more likely to hit it in the air, ideally to a feilder

  • maybe but it makes it more likely to pop up in the air. i wouldnt reccomend it against a good batsman but against glenn yes.

  • He was a great finisher. He used to bat at number 6 and used to remained not out. Though Australian top order batting line up was really good at that time.

  • what did he make in that game

  • 78 off 88

  • Comment removed

  • The last 2 ball was cleverly bowled by the baller but .....there was Michael Bevan with his bat on the strike end ..

He is the bestest of the best batsman in ODI ..around the world..

  • best 1 day middle order batsman we have produced won that many games off his own willow go the aussies

  • Also correct me if I'm wrong but didn't this game go 'til nearly midnight? It was one of those rain affected matches.

  • i think it was mate, reduced overs

  • i think bevan needs to come out of retirement to pull the aussies out of the shit with the ashes at the moment

  • It would be greta but he is 39 years old and has had too many injuries.

  • yeah true. would be an awesome thought tho

  • One of the most underrated players in Australian cricket history if not the most underrated.

  • SilviaTom23, exact same story as me except I was 12 at the time. Watching it today, was just as exciting as watching now! I still get goosebumps watching this.

  • Cant believe Australia booted him outta the team before his time. One of the greatest one day players in history was screwed by the Aussie cricket board.

  • @jamal22066 Should of been given a Test career as well. Great cricketer.

  • @jamal22066

Agreed. I think one of Bevans problems was he was seen only (and incorrectly) as a superlative finisher - and with Australia at the time totally dominating finishing wasn't needed. They could win by simply bludgening. Perhaps as well he came across as a measured humble person which didn't really fit with the Australian team ethos then which was brash to say the least. One of my favourite all time cricketers and it's criminal he wasn't picked more. Great role model too.

  • One of the best moments in Australian cricket.

  • Absolute gun, i once saw a kid called Leif Powis hit a shot like this playing Darlot Cup cricket for Wesley. It was delicious

  • such a good player michael bevan

  • I remember seeing the umpire duck when he hit the four, imagine if he got hit and the ball spooned to cover...............

  • exactly i jus thought of it!! the next day newspapers wud have read, Shepherd won the match for indies, and imagine what if it was a tie.. lol.. wud have been a real tramedy!

  • this type of stuff is so common in T20 nowadays ...

  • imagine if bevo got out that ball...how the world would change

  • Bev! !!!He could walk into any Australian pub for the rest of his life, even if homeless and dressed in a newspaper and simply say to the bartender, "Four off the last ball, 96, Windies" and it would be free piss all night or the bartender could find a new job.

  • yep mate well said :) , that was the first ever criceket match i watched and still remember till the end i was like oh man this game is so boring its so predictable and thank god i was proved wrong :) , kudos to the bevan and kudoes to the sporting behaviour of harper and walsh

  • One of the few truly memorable ODIs.

Well done Bevo. You were a star.

  • baven was one of the best in ausi side.

  • stuff legends are made of :) stunning!

  • he didn't play many games against bangladesh to lower his average though

  • STFU - got and flame elsewhere

  • I think he took cocaine and crystal meth to cover his diuretic intake. Your real name wouldn`t be Mike Gatting by any chance? I sense sour grapes.

  • bevan was 1 of D best finishers....too bad for him...

  • i remember this - it was sooooo amazing!!! it really kicked off michael bevans career!

  • EPIC.

  • I was there - in the Brewongle.

    Pure magic!

  • omg i remember this and i was only like 5 haha, awesome player

  • one of the best all rounds in history

  • haha that was good of Pidge to turn over the strike, remembering hes like the 2nd worst ever batsmen and theres one wicket in hand

  • all credit to the umpire for ducking in:D

  • All credit to Harper for high-5'ing Bevan on the way off also.

  • i remember this. this was when the west indies used to dominate cricket. Bevan was one of the best odi batsmen. Such a shame he never got to be a full time test batsmen. He got robbed from that.

  • One of the best all round one day players ever.

  • FCK YEHHHH howd glen be feeling.... "Yeah baby i got Bevo on strike!!" Still remember this from when i was 18... best night of cricket!!

  • fuckin awesome, remember this night very well..a standout moment in my life growin up..just awesome..

  • When I think of my favourite memories of ODI cricket in its heyday this and Steve Waughs catch next to the side screen stand out!!! i remember watching this and thinking i was dreaming. Awesome
