I don't the color pattern under the wings matches any of the 2008 Red Bull air races. Paul Bonhomme, from Britain, has red stripes on white wings. I would look to computer flight sims for the airplane ??
I will be amazed if this guy does not get violated by the FAA. The tower CAN NOT authorize something like that. "It is the responsibility of the PIC to comply with ALL applicable FAR's"
I'm no aerobat but the FAA says very little about aerobatic flight in 91.303, maybe 6-8 lines? But as you note he violated a couple of these like a 1500ft floor... But he didn't, because he's got "special waivers" for low level aerobatics based on demonstrated ability to the FAA or another Desiganted Examiner. Controllers clearing the airfield and not to mention there is probably an FAA waiver for that airfield on that given day, he didn't violate any FARs or civil laws.
The guy filming was the local controller who owns the active runway and all of the airspace in the vicinity of the airport, and if the airport is not busy he can authorize stuff like this. Notice at the end he says that the pilot is cleared for the option on any runway. Also as long as the aerobatics are taking place right above the airport there are no noise abatement violations.
I love how they put 117Y on an extended downwind so this can be pulled off! Great buzz, anybody know who it was? It looks like a Zivco 540, Chambliss? Besenyei?
