  • He quit basketball because he was tired of teammates' jealousy (mostly Horace Grant), him being criticized for his gambling activities, being exhausted from playing and giving up his life for fans, and of course his father's death was the straw that broke the camel's back.

  • Would be insane if he was the best baseball AND basketball player of all time.

  • This reminds me of Field of dreams.

  • 3:09 just look at him, poor Michael.

  • i got his autograph on a baseball one year he was there....not as tall as i thought....but he had a bad ass black bmw

  • 5:33 i got your jersey number

  • Taking the bus? that must have been crazy to get on a bus and see him there chilling like anyone else..

  • overalls? serious like Mike?

  • @kennygriff24 cut him some slack that was a big look back in the 90's I had about 5 or 6 of those joints lol

  • what a nice guy

  • why are they criticizing him for playing baseball

    $5 an hour

he did it for his father and he did it for the passion

i would play pro baseball even if i had a decent salary, for the love of the game

  • @vineet123kumar123 A lot of people think he did it because David Stern threatened to kick him out of the NBA for gambling....most of the hate comes from that

  • @Imac7065 um no alot of the baseball people bitched and moaned openly about Mj not playing Baseball since high school that he was robbing some minor leaguer of a supposed chance and also the press too went on and on about he was making a mockery of the game including that SI cover saying MJ was making a mockery of the game thats why MJ where the overcritique came from, and this whole gambling suspension dumb considering stern gets accused of doing whatever for stars to win in the NBA

  • @sportstalk23 That's the point... anyone else would have just been banned for life (a la Pete Rose).. because MJ was the face of the game Stern let him go play baseball "for his dad"... it was pretty much a farse

  • Ironic that the "GOAT" basketball player couldn't even stay in the starting line up of a AA team. Tells you something about which sport really does take the most skill.

  • @Imac7065

Maybe if he had the chance to practice baseball instead of playing in the NBA, that might help... Just Saying

  • @TRDIGFV

Tony Gonzalez was able to make the Heat's summer league roster about 5 years ago after not playing BBall since college. What you said was a cop out.

  • @Imac7065

There's skill, and then there's picking up a completely unfamiliar sport at 30.

  • @atshine09 Nah it wasn't completely unfamiliar, he played the sport during his youth, and was given opportunity to re-train and obviously he was always physically fit. He was strong, and fast. Anyways its amazing what he did though and that he could bat .200 even at double A. (Even though I think the pitchers and coaches obviously went really easy on him). Its still not easy.

  • thank god he never laced up for the white sox otherwise i wouldnt be a baseball fan. still good at basketball

  • Glad to see that a sportsman doesn't care about money these days!

That's mostly what sport people care about today :(

  • MJ is the greatest B-ball player, but being great at 1 sport does not translate into another sport. Different skill sets are needed for baseball. I remember years ago when Jordan went into baseball and people were saying that he was going to be better than Babe Ruth or Willie Mays, but knowledgeable people knew better. It's like saying since Lebron James is so good at b-ball if he went into soccer he could be better than Maradona. Again different sports, different skill sets are needed.

  • What I don't get is that why did they give him a contract if he didn't play in high school or college,if a regular dude walked up to a baseball GM and said "Give me a contract, even though I haven't played baseball since I was a kid the GM would have call Security. It just doesn't make since to me.

  • @MicDizzle2 Ticket sales. Great business move really

  • @MicDizzle2 He did play in High School, He was a pitcher though.

  • God I hate some of them questions, esp. about his dad. He responds so calmy and professionally.... He is an inspiration to anyone who doesnt listen to the fucking journalists!

He follows his dreams even when others tell him he cant, not many people have the courage to do that, so respect for that.

I mean, I started a couple of new sports recently... Should I be abused and insulted just because some jealous idiots have been playing longer??

    MICHAEL JORDAN - HERO!!

  • what happened to his father's murderers? I hope they got the chair, the bastards.

  • He was so serene...

  • hood and johnson needs a life. they act like playing baseball is about making money nd mj is stealing their chance of getting a raise. ppl should play sports cuz they like it. not cuz their life depends on it.

  • I'm a cubs fan, but MICHAEL JORDAN IS THE BEST EVER!!!! BASEBALL AND BASKETBALL!

  • anyone else other than #VIDEOPOSTERID# tested out the nba exercise program for dunking and shooting? Even players like Kobe Bryant, Ray Allen and Arenas have suggested this training. If you don t know what I m talking about, just look at (50 inch vertical [dot] com)

    Michael Jordan talks baseball

  • so the greatest basketball player ever would rather play baseball than basketball? What I take from that is this says a lot for baseball.

  • he did play in the mlb he played for the white soxs

  • @sk8tersrgtd no

  • @sycosnot OOPS SORRY mi bad i dont know what i was thinking lolz sorry

  • This was recorded a few days after my birth lol

  • Randy Hood and Barry Johnson are losers. If they were any good MJ would not replace him, they would play another posistion or be moved up to AAA.

  • the best baksetball players from north carolina get somebody murdered michael jordan and chris paul

  • he's doin it for fun

  • eh ForEmily23, if you want to get better in basketball, you need to start following the nba workout. I used the famous nba the nba training program at 50inch vertical[dot]com. I haven t even told this to my high school teammates yet lol

    Michael Jordan talks baseball

  • what's with the overall outift

  • he's a basketball icon, his popular Jordan shoes, cloths, famous Air Jordan dunks, so why would he even attempt to do this?

  • because he's michael jordan and he can do whatever he wants

  • part of it was the death of his father. the other reason was that he was so dam good and already had nothing left to prove in 1993, he had lost his passion for the game and decided to walk away. lucky for all of us, the passion came back and so did he, to win 3 more titles. imo his baseball tenure wasn't a failure, but just another testament to his greatness

  • did you not watch the video?

  • how bad would you feel murdering michael jordan's father :(

  • think that's his grandad

  • Comment removed

  • i can't believe jordan's father got murdered. that is incredibly f-d up and odd. rip mr. jordan

  • rip mj

  • why would he do this?

  • well on an interview with espn he said that at the time of his retirement the game was getting to comercial for him

  • Comment removed

  • He only got paid 5 dollars an hour?

  • u think he hurts for money? lol

  • i heard somewhere that a teammate of his say

he cant hit a curveball with an ironing board

  • didn't he suck at baseball????

  • it woulda been HELLA SICK if he actually played in the MLB

  • @eddysbigbrother he did on the White Sox hahaha

  • @eddysbigbrother he did, a few games for the white sox

  • @eddysbigbrother

He did a little bit. Because the owner of the Bulls was also the owner of the Red Sox so he let Jordan play in a few games.

  • @adi1096 White Sox, not Red Sox

  • @JohnnyKelevra

Oh I don't know anything about baseball lol

  • same, i think they sounds so much alike. And both say the right thing,(boring way)

  • i actually got to see MJ play in a preseason game for the White Sox...i think he went 1/4 but it was cool he signed autos walking down the first base side after the game

  • @videoluvr4204 2/4 and 2 RBI

  • such a humble and awesome dude

  • Kobe really had the potential to be Jesus of basketball but Jordan is already a God of basketball.

  • no he isnt

  • @mikeibs79 Kobe is not even a top 10 player.

  • kobe studies mike and copies his every character

  • yea, but he can't. no one can, michael jordan is the best and always will be the best, there will be no one like him ever again. sure players like lebron and kobe are good they're great! one of the best players in the NBA, but they'll never be a michael jordan.

Michael Jordan is Number 1 (The Best!)

  • kobe bryant when he was a kid hes main sport was soccer, he wants to become a soccer player when he grow up. he move to USA like at 17 or 16 and he start playing basketball and now look at him.

  • what a lie!!!!!!!!!

  • its not a lie =S

  • he's very good at soccer, however, due to the fact that he lived in italy for some time as a kid

  • haha u fucking retard! italy?!?!? hahahaha

  • no im not a fucking retard, actually. he says it in an interview with jimmy kimmel i believe, look it up u thickheaded fuck

  • no he not retarded priceboy16! look it up!

  • No , Kobe Bryant Is From Italy!

  • Dumbass. Kobe was born in Philadelphia, U.S.A. Not Italy.

  • Comment removed

  • @NBA036 Dipshit Kobe was born in Philly

  • Kobe from philly but moved to italy when he was 6 his father went out there to play basketball he actually speak italian fluently he stayed there for 7 years

  • Yup but he was not born in Italy

  • ARE YOU crazy kobe is american.. is from phililadelfia... i lived a time in italy... you are crazy fool

  • yaa, he lived in Italy

  • i think your thinking of kobe right?

  • yeah, someone said somethin about kobe being good at soccer or somethin i thought. maybe im just confused

  • yea kobe played soccer he has a story on youtube actually saying that he was a lil boy in italy so majority rules said he had to play soccer and he said he used to stay 2 hours after soccer to play basketball on the hoops right over the soccer nets by himself

why do you think he can speak italian

also yea i didnt see the conversation so i thought you were talking about mj i was like wtf lol

  • if youre asking me why i think he can speak italian, because in an interview with jimmy kimmel he said it...

and if that was just part of your point then nvm lol

  • just a point lol kobe had an interesting child hood that has not really been talked about

  • he also speaks spanish...

  • he also speaks spanish...

  • lol, "check wikipedi." Wikipedia thrives on its credibility. Are you serious...

  • basket ball is too easy for him

  • Noone comes close to Jordan. Not even Lebron or Kobe. He's like the Bruce Lee of Basketball.

  • lol bruce lee was the michael jordan of martial arts. jordan was inspiring bruce lee before he was born. jk

  • he sucked at baseball lol but he was a amazing basketball player

  • Jordan. Simply the Best. & living Strong.

What an honor to have him on this earth.

  • So is he the best basketball player ever? Has that been established for certain yet?

  • that was established a LONG time ago

and no matter what these young people think, Kobe is not even in his league!

  • LeBron will never catch up to Michael Jordan. Mike will remain the G.O.A.T. (Greatest of all Time).

  • hes kobes current age right here

  • What determination this man has...

Had this tragedy occured to me, I would barely be able to move on...

    What grace

  • damn there are some white haters there....

  • for not playing since high school he didnt do that bad. He's just an athlete

  • i wouldn't "doubt" you

  • nice..you just commited a sin..haha

  • Even Michael Jordan can't escape the harsh realities and misfortunes of life. He had everything during that time, a great career, a nice family, a father who supports him and the one he looks up to and asks for advice (and is one of the few persons he loves very much). But suddenly a stroke of misfortune hit Jordan and made him decide to play Baseball to pay respect and give honor to his late father. What a very humble and loving son he is.

  • jordan could shoot a 3 and probably had a better 3 point fg percentage in clutch situations. . . . through shire will the ball would go in the hoop

  • Kobe thinks of Mike every shot he takes, everyone still wants to be like Mike, but you can't be a god.

  • I think he coulda made the majors, someone that athletic, smart, and determined could accomplish anything. While its true he did everything in the NBA, he was satisfied with his accomplishments there and felt like filling another hole in his life, his childhood dream. When you really think about it, we'd be doing the same thing.

  • 1994- He a multi millionare won 3 championships, considered best of all time......hes done more shit than any athlete.....why not try baseball?

  • he won 6 championships smart one...

  • it said 1994.. ^^..

  • thank you

  • 3 championships before the 1st retirement.........smart one

  • probably could have won a couple more if he didn't waste those precious years playing baseball. He let his team down when he did that.

  • but when he stopped he already won 3 championships. playing baseball is "a way to get connected" with his dad. Dont you think he did enough for his teammates?

  • He was talking about as of 1994.

    Learn to read.

  • Why not go to baseball? Right?

  • $5 dollars an hour wow my sister gets more

  • Kobe will never win another championship w/out Shaq

  • @mick2spic well he jus won 2

  • @lebron23886 haha.....maybe I should amend that now. Kobe will never win without Gasol. Pau was the true MVP

  • @mick2spic get over it like come on the finals is over already damn

  • @kingkong11203 I was replying to someone who replied to me. Dummy

  • actually they both have about the same 3 pt percentage for career...its just that jordan never fired away 10 3's per game like kobe does and he didn't play in this era, where guys attempt 350 - 500 3's per season

  • they both the same the 3's avg..so? kobe an't win finals mvp..jordan did 6mvp's.. jordan the best player of all time..

  • CANT SHOOT A 3?

You dont even know who Jordan is if you think he cant shoot a 3

  • michael was so athletic that if he decided in high school to stick with baseball he probably couldve gone pro..if he stuck in the minors for a year ..honed is game..he mightve made the jump..this video is such a trip seeing mj play baseball..

  • @ media401

He retired from Basetball to play Baseball because he said Baseball was his first true love, since he was little. He only came back to basketball again because of the baseball strike.

  • Deltron, U R an IDIOT.

  • You are such a fucking idiot.... i cant believe you would say that.

  • Teach Kobe how to play defense and maybe he would be half as good as jordan

  • lol i live in greenville south carolina

  • i understand the other players jealousy, they do work their whole lives to play in the Majors... to get big... to be a name people will remember... in their sport, and a guy that has solidified himself as the best Basketball player of all time comes in and takes the light away from the rest of the team. Its not a light on the team, its a light on him. But in his defense... people should be able to play what they want, he obviously wanted to play baseball, whats wrong with that?

  • Dam, the way he speaks is so...intelligent, so classy, so humble yet confident....

The most competitive guy ever, with amazing athletic abilities, High Basketball IQ, and class off the court....

This guy is one in a lifetime...Michael Jordan

  • Finally saw some footage of Micheal playing baseball

  • lol im 8

  • ur not 8 ur a bitch

  • rofl

  • uhh nice! but my profile has better stuff! chck it out! 8

  • i read that he actually led the team in rbi's when there was 2 strikes against the team.

    he was still clutch

  • i forgot jordan tried to play baseball! this insane!

  • Interesting to think he played for two years.

  • MJ's the truth. Gotta respect him. He is so insightful

  • Great video!

I'm suprised Tom Brokaw has never been sued by any stroke victims for vocal impersonation. Just listen to the first few seconds lol.

  • i like it how the minor league players got jealous. Instead of learning about what made this man a great athlete, they chose to say that he is taking their lime light. Rule 1 - when you come in contact with someone who is known for being the best at something, find out what it is that make that person the best, and not play them down.

  • Amen brother. Unfortunately, thats rarely a true typical american average joe mentality. They just didn't realise MJ being in their team brought excessive limelight & they could have used that to their advantage. Instead, they just got jeolous. no wonder they never made it to MLB

  • i Believe him playing was a good decision, but it never brought the rest of the team the limelight, it brought him the limelight...

Good exapmle, Barry Bonds... Anyone outside of San Francisco wouldnt know ANYBODY on that team but Bonds. Nobody knew who the 'team' was, they only knew bonds... same concept

  • That being said, keep up the good work ForEmily23!

  • I really opened up a can of worms with my comments LOL! That being said, I'm just as big of an MJ fan as the rest of you guys & I think he's the GOAT (don't believe it, check some of the subscriptions on my page), I just made a personal observation and when I stated my opinion, I got attacked by everyone watching this vid. What provoked me to state my opinion was my getting fed up with the Kobe bashing. This video had nothing to do with KB and people seem to bash him at every given opportunity.

  • Michael Jordan. Possibly the most revered, idolized person in the history of the world. To see him in such a humble state, with the world actually questioning him, and to see his reaction, is quite a breath of fresh air. Michael Jordan is truly the greatest.

  • great vid

where do u get all this stuff

    haha

    :)

  • I think MJ just ddin't want to play anymore after the first three peat. When you win win, win that's great... but he felt he accomplished it. Besides he was starting to get weighed down by the game, wasn't quite as fun as it was.. it was time to move on. But he got that itch to play again.

  • LOL yeah... me and my bro have talked about while Kobe was in Italy he had nothing to do but study Jordan, his game and his personailty lol

  • hahahahahaha, kobe more articulate than MJ? that's comedy right there.

  • I didn't mean MJ was a dummy, I just stated that MJ tended to misuse some words in his interviews at times.

  • if i will talk about my father who pass away not long ago...it won't be easy to find any words to say what i fell.

  • what are you an English teacher now???

  • Just because MJ might misuse certain words doesn't mean he's uneducated. He finished his college degree at UNC even after going out early (much props to VC for doing the same). MJ runs a billion dollar line call "JORDAN BRAND" in case people haven't noticed and the last time I check, the brand is still running strong event after he stopped playing. That's not bad for a guy who 'misuse' certain words!

  • Ok, well...whatever. But before you go correct someone's "articulation", make sure your grammar is up to par. "Alot" is actually two words - a lot.

  • yes bballmemories, i agree about kobe mimicking MJ in interviews. i've said that all along and its one of the reasons i dont like him off the court. i cant take him sincerely. if you look at his press conf. in high school announcing his entering the nba at 17, he even says the same quote mj said when leaving unc "i thought it was good to start now, while im young".

and he always raiess his eyebrows and smiles. reminds me of isaih thomas when he talks: cant trust him!

  • arkade2345 this is how Kobe's retirement speech going to start: "when I lose the sense of motivation to prove something as a basketball player, it's time for me to move away from the game of basketball"...

  • LOL man too good, too good.

  • LOL Probably so... that guy is a Jordan impersonator he will never become the icon MJ was... stop trying! lol

  • he was still getting paid his current bulls contract until '96 while he was playing baseball...so $5 an hour was really nothing to him.

  • even when MJ returned to basketball in 95,he didn't complain about his contract. He played through the 95-96 season underpaid compared to many of the younger players back then. Glenn Robinson, Larry Johnson, were making more than he did, but he honored his contract and renegotiated when it was up. Unfortunately, players today who aren't and will never be as good as MJ think that they can void their contract whenever they see other players get paid more than them.

  • Why do people on insist saying Kobe's name whenever Michael Jordan is being talked about? Will the comparisons ever stop? ugh, i dought it. I like KB but this has got nothing to do with KB. Anyways, I love MJ but why just why couldn't he choose to be a Cubbie? Yea, so we haven't won a WS in 100 years, i know.....but still. Why Mike Why?! lol.

  • as for being a cubbie, well the owner of the chicago bulls also owns the white sox. thus the opportunity to slide right in. easy choice.
