  • What type of training sabres are you guys using?

  • @MarkH457 We use a variety of different types, but in this particular clip we're using 19th century hilts for swedish army practise sabres, with custom made new blades from Peter Regenyei,

  • @3ng4n Thanks!

Yeah, I figured they were not a type that I could easily acquire. Not completely displeased with my Hanwei Hutton, but I would like something a bit more robust though.

  • @MarkH457 We used to have four Huttons. Three are completely broken, and the fourth mainly survives because no-one really likes it and thus it sees very little use. Its shell looks like a crater landscape from having been hammered back out so many times.

Apart from them breaking, I mostly dislike the grip for being too thin (fixable with some leather and glue or tape or whatever). Also the blade is a bit too light.

  • @MarkH457 However, there's a lot going on in the department of practise sabres right now. I'm working with Peter Regenyei on a model of complete sparring sabre in the spirit of those we're using in this clip. Matt Easton of Schola Gladiatoria is working with other smiths to produce a replica of the 1860's british gymnasia sabre, which should also be excellent.

  • @3ng4n Any idea when Péter might have the sabres ready? I actually quite liked the ones we used in Swordfish, which I remember hearing had blades done by him. I'd rather spend a little more money and wait for one of Péter's sabres than buy a Hutton. Loved the video, cheers! :)

  • @SirAugie83 I got the first prototype about a week ago and yesterday I gave Peter some feedback for minor vhanges to the (hopefully) final version. I will probably receive this new version somewhere around the 20th of February. If I'm happy with that one I will review it on Schola Forum and other places.
