Its not really that hard. Just a matter of being comfortable enough with a riff that you really dont have to think of doing it. its easy enough for me when the song comes naturally in my fingers, no matter how hard the riff

ya if you paly the riff enough you memorize it and it bcomes like a kata type thing... in karate a kata is a form that you practice so many times you can do it with out thinking... and if you dont have to think about the riff you can sing no probelm.. its just a matter of practice
