Ha, you guys just kicked our asses yesterday. Me and my other trombone buddy were pretty mad we couldnt see you guys march, i think you guys are my favorite highschool marching band in the region. And this is my favorite stand tune... beats espn, in my opinion.
The Horse rocks. Powers Catholic uses the song. Blavaburnulots we do the same thing only it's C-H-A-R-G-E-R-S. The quad solo at the beggining you can't keep out your head. Powers Catholic High School in Flint, MI
The song is titled simply "The Horse". I played it in high school in the early 70's and it's one of the best tunes for marching/pep band ever writ. I believe our arrangement was by Bill Moffit, creator of the "Soundpower" series. Bill was conductor of the MSU Spartan marching band for years and was a master of this type of outstanding and powerful band music.
Composed by Jesse Adams, arranged by Bill Moffit (our version). BTW: Our band went a lot faster at football games and had much more low brass and trumpet. Your band has too much flute. I don't like it. GLORY TO THE TROMBONES!
Secondly, if your band performs this song faster than what was shown in the video, then your band is doing it WRONG.
This song was written for the tempo that SDMB played it, as you would know if you listened to the original version of the song by Cliff Nobles & Co.
Third, the instrument you call a "flute" was actually a piccolo, a naturally loud instrument. It is designed so that despite it's size, it can be picked out in a large ensemble.
Fourth, the only reason why it seemed loud was because the person filming this event was probably sitting right next to the piccolo, and not as close to the trumpet and low brass, hence why you do not hear as much of them.
and finally, in response to your "Glory to the Trombones", it just so happens that people who brag about playing trombone are usually those who couldn't cut it on any other instrument. The trombone is inarguably the simplest instrument to learn/play.
I play trombone... and I don't really think that's true. I mean it was pretty quick to learn the trombone, but the part about not being able to cut other instruments was pretty harsh. The trombone isn't the easiest instrument to play by the way. There are challenges you must overcome from playing the trombone, as any other instrument does. In fact, the people that were horrible in middle school, were moved to the trumpets, not the trombones.
I play trumpet and i will say that it is easier than the trombone to finger notes and be in tune. however, it is much harder to develop a range. i agree with randomclan898889
That is totally not true I play trombone, tuning is what makes it difficult, its sensative to positions like the french horn is to fingering and hand position. I believe playing a three valved instrument and tuning it with a tuner has a better percentage of hitting a note right the first time than the trombone.
I'd just like to say that a song can be played at any speed, it's just a song. And I like Horsey.. Trombones are cool, but nothing beats Mellophone! YEAH! :)

It's by Jay Dawson. The band at our school plays this. It's pretty sweet since we're the Colts. We have a drum solo in the middle of ours, too.

Also when it goes duh-duh-duh-duh-du-duh. The section where the down-ups are continous we don't use the same note we changed it.

Hey douchebag (i.e. chadmighster)
First of all, this original version of this song (in the video) was NOT composed by Jesse Adams.
It was written, composed and originally performed by Cliff Nobles.
It has been arranged by several others, including Bill Moffit for Pep Band. Stop pretending you know what you're talking about.
