  • ...not bad for a drummer.

  • man i wish i was there, but i was only 6 years old lol :/

  • Just to the "who is the best" conversation (which i think is ridiculous): have a look/listen at the version of dutch fingerpicker Harry Sacksioni of this piece here on youtube. watch?v=nQLjmkpBy_c

  • this guy just made sex with the guitar!!!!

(Jean).

  • This is just MY opinion....No doubt that Tommy and Jimi totally different styles but don't forget Tommy plays a solid body electric too!.. Love Eric Clapton and my all time favorite rock blues player... I am just stating what I have experienced and that is Tommy Emmanuel the best and most talnted I have ever heard!.. Believe me, many guitar players and great ones, who have seen him, say the same thing!..

  • At 1:05! Love the cascade

  • sooooo smuuuuuu :-D

  • He is soooooo mean!

  • You know....awesome chops aside, Tommy has so much groove which a lot of fingerstyle shredders don't.

  • When God wanted a great guitar player he created Tommy Emmanuel!..AWESOME

  • what a description!!??? ? :)))

  • I have to say that not even the original version sung by such giants as Nat King Cole and Dean Martin reach the same level of emotion and power as does Tommy Emmanuel. That's saying something.

  • Tommy is the MAN, The Master...Jimi could not play on Tommy's level. Tommy is a genius! Best and most UNIQUE guitarist I have ever heard

  • @Crackers2549 Tommy's the man yes, but you really can't compare him and Jimi Hendrix ;)

  • @AndreasSku93 Yes for sure !!!!

Tommy is the Best for Clapton...is the best for all guitarist...

  • @zack8323 ...He is a great guitarist, but so are the classical, and flamenco guitarist.

  • @AndreasSku93 thank you!

  • @AndreasSku93 you are right you can't compare the 2. TE would blow Hendrix out of the water. Hendrix was very original. He could not do half of what TE can do

  • @richiemabie Music is not about what you can do, it's about what you make with what you can do. Besides, JH could do stuff Tommy Emmanuel and countless other guitarists never would have thought of on their own. Seriously you should dig deeper into Hendrix, as a guitarist myself it took a little while to realize how amazing he actually is. But let's not compare guitarists, it's ridiculous.. Tommy Emmanuel is great, seeing him live is an experience for life!

  • @Crackers2549 Repent!! That was a crap statement. Two very different styles.

  • Move over Tal Farlow....

  • 2:20 Compressor :)

  • Tommy has the GIFT, not to take away his hard work.

  • I want his shoes lol

  • SO!!!...I am not alone!Whereas Emmanuel(love those videos)is a marvelous EMULATOR...Hendrix is the most astounding INNOVATOR since the Beatles.A massive,MASSIVE milestone in the history of the universe...They created something out of nothing. When I first heard 'Are You Experienced' it revealed a world of guitar playing I could not imagine...then Axis..the intro to 'Little Wing' and 'Castles Made of Sand'.....then came "Ladyland'!!!Shattering, inexplicable (as you say)genius.

  • White buttons on a black shirt- what the hell was he thinking?

  • @tony9L9L Probabably the same as the vast majority of guitar manufacturers who put white dots on a black fretboard....so you can see them more easily in the dark..LOL.WHERE TF did that comment come from???TeeHee,

  • @ToneDeafecation Tommy is so perfect he's even named after a classic porn film! Doesn't he know that we should leave perfection to god? What a player, Hendrix would have loved him.

    (thanks for getting the joke)

  • @tony9L9L Interesting!!!!My name is Tony and I am a MASSIVE,GIGANTIC,RIDICULOUS Hendrix fan...methinks we could be be musicians of note (if you'll pardon the pun).

  • @ToneDeafecation Have you managed to work out why Jimi Hendrix was so far beyond every other guitar player? I can't explain it and I've been thinking about it for years.

Does anybody know Tommy's views on Hendrix?

  • @tony9L9L The 'Tommy and Hendrix' issue is something i've been interested in for a long time.. They're styles seem to be avoiding eachother for some reason... A paradox if you will.. :)

  • @Firestoner46 With the greatest respect for Tommy, I am always impressed by his technical skills and agility like watching a great gymnast but his music doesn't make me cry or want to dance. Does he sacrifice feeling for extraordinary dexterity? When I listen to Jimi I just want to go and fuck my woman.

  • yeah I have been thinking the same. that is a question that I would like to know Tommy's answer to. I have heard him say SRV is his favourite blues player and is for me, one of the closest to hendrix for electric blues

  • @sightsizemethod Oh no not srv, he was just a fancy dress tribute act who insulted Hendrix's legacy with his joke parody performances. Why would anyone listen to the man who put the 'ass' in 'Texass' when theres so many better people to listen to? Stick to Jimi- the real deal, the incomparable Seattle maestro.

  • Bravo maestro!!!!!

  • Thanks for tipping me off Heikkipajunen, My attempts to make a jewellery box out of my guitars didn't go too well, but i'll find something, train spotting maybe.

  • I think I couldn't just listen to him, I need to watch him, his gesture IS also part of his music. I love this guy.

  • I cant understand how anyone would want to hate this video

  • Tommy is PHENOMENAL!!! Can't wait to see him Sep't 18, 2011...3rd row seat...

  • this guy truly is a master at playing

  • man I love this!!

  • I love the way he dances with the guitar!! XD He's really into it! =D

  • @joaomosc haha, if I could play like That i couldn't help but dancing like That XD

actually i'd jizz all over the audiance :) sweet dreams...

  • @TheMarkedham Dude i know exactly how you feel just found out about him today!

  • I'd ask him for a nice matching gloves and scarf set and take up gardening

  • I just found Tommy today.....what rock have i been living under :O

  • Another big factor why Tommy is so great is his presence and ability to detach himself from the whole situation of fingerstyle which is already independant within itself!. Most every guitarist Brent Mason. Pat Metheny Doyle Dykes even within their greatness have to concentrate quite a bit just to stay in the pocket of their playing. Tommy somehow so aware looking around while even poking innocent fun while in the jam. Such control.

  • @GameLevelEditor are you saying it's hard to focus on other stuff while finger picking?

  • @halfhott No I'm saying for Tommy its not even an issue to have a full conversation or poke fun while playing intricate guitar where others seem to be annoyed or have to concentrate harder to play intricate guitar.

  • is pissed he neglected to see his show in Minneapolis :(

  • Tommy Emmanuel should be a household name everywhere in the world instead of just in Australia.

  • if you no enough about good music to stumble upon this video, how can you dislike it?

  • Skill and Showmanship! He plays it in the essence of how the song is suppose to be.

  • greatest of all guitarists... - unbelievable good - Saturday I will see him in Holland... yes, yes, yes... sometimes live is fair...

  • guy's can you help me out here? a ton a people made covers of blue moon.

but I'm looking for the version most similar to the one tommy is playing here.

  • Yes, yes 1 milion. time and much more - it's unbelievable.

    Tommy comes to Lithuania.

  • U N B E L I E V A B L E !!!

  • There are lots of tabs out there for this song, but most of them are incomplete or contain errors. If you are serious about learning, you can get the official transcriptions on Tommy's website (for sale). They are quality publicatons and you can be sure they are the original arrangement and not some internet douchebag's shotty attempt. To neggy's comment, yes it is possible to learn it from tab. I use tab in conjunction with Guitar Pro (software) to help work out the timing. Hope that helps.

  • one of my old time favorite. Beautifualy played!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Does anyone have a guitar tab for this?

This is great, and would be an amazing accomplishment if I can learn to play it!

  • @MLMusicLover9 okay, dont take it too bad but.. if you need a tab to learn this song.. i dont think you could ever afford to play such a good tune!

i'm just sayng.. if you are good enough to play this song.. well, you should definitely be good enough to learn it by ear :)

  • There are 2 kinds of guitarists in my opinion: those that love Tommy Emmanuel and those who haven't heard of him.

  • Go to 1:00. Not only is that out of this world technically stupendously difficult to pull off...the man looks at someone (a non-beleiver maybe?) and makes sure they are sufficiently gob-smacked. He even times the string flip with his plectrum perfectly for emphasis!!! The man should be considered both Australia's Greatest Export and Talent....ever. Any idea how many people have played the guitar throughout history?...this man is better.

  • Damn, his music make me smile :-)

  • Tommy E. puts more piano chords, bass and rhythm in one guitar composition than any other guitarist living or dead. He's in a class all by himself.

  • Great song! So fine to listen....I like the fingerpicking style....."the Emmanuel-style"!

  • @Eefiebaby I like him! He is the king.....fingerpicking. "The Emmanuel-Style"!!!

  • @silovevd Everyone in life has a talent, by some people you can't see their talent...............but by Tommy everyone can see en enjoy it!

  • From looking after our unemployed to healthcare to guitar playing - anything anybody does Aussies do it better. Show'em how its done Tommy

  • E' troppo bravo, io sto incominciando a suonare la chitarra solo ora, spero di poter suonarla solo un pò come lui un giorno...... =)

  • looks pleased with himself :) i would be too - it's a kickass song :D

  • I like your comments on Tommy jysniper and agree completely with not comparing

one guitar player to another they each have their own styles just enjoy the music.

  • God..he's awsome...especially in 1:05-1:07..

  • he even know how his guitar looks inside..

  • 1:43 =D

  • .... *looks at my hands for 5 minutes* *breaks silence* DAAAMMM UUUUUU

  • soooo entertaining

  • Chet always said, tap your foot.

And Tommy will say "and sheik yo hed" =))

  • @iVanHalen666 Yeh but Tommy would say 'I used to do that when i was like 4 n started playing, now i ENTERTAIN'

  • This is so strange, both Tommy and the guitar look so young...

  • this is an awesome song...and he is an awesome player... but the way he moves sorryy but dat makes my day :)

  • some days ago i tried to play this on guitar. after i had done the done the base-line, i just thought "no way Tommy" :)

  • haa yes!

    the way he play's it

  • I like his style and improvisation. Well done Tommy

  • tommys amazing he has that playing rhythm, bass and lead all at once thing going like Hendrix did

  • @skint0n0minted Hendrix never did anything remotely like this..

  • @Sirbrooksalot I said hes playing lead, rhythm and bass at the same time, like Jimi did. Thats what Jimi did, Jimi didn't play fingerstyle in that way but Jimi did all three at once too.

  • Comment removed

  • @skint0n0minted yeah, but he didn't.. lol, dont get me wrong, as a guitarist, I idolize Jimi, but to compare him to Emmanuel is to compare apples to oranges.

  • is there a place that i could buy hte dvd of this concert? or a better questoin would be, whats the title of this concert?

  • @orangetransformer Live @ the Sheldon Auditorium. The show is available @ Veoh.com

  • He does the same type of jazz bass effect that Joe Robinson does on his song "Misty." Check it out.

  • genio! :O

  • He has so much fun up there. :D

  • haha wow yeahh

  • he can play better than chuck norris

  • its like thier is a bass player

  • simply the best in the world, thanks tommy, you give me very much in term of musical ideas....tecnique and wish of playing!!!!!

  • I didn't even know Al Gore could play guitar.

  • Comment removed

  • @fishingriver lmao

  • This is from his DVD "Live at Sheldon Hall" c.2000, absolutely the best representation of his work to that point and still maybe until now. It's the best $40 I ever spent.

  • the outro makes me moist.

  • this is justin bieber

  • @maciek36271111 this owns justin bieber

  • @maciek36271111 Lol, no need to troll such a good hearted vid

  • never fails to entertain..

  • Tommy dosen't just play the guitar he is the guitar, It is part of him, He plays like we breath or our hearts beats.

  • I wish I could make my guitar sound like this!

  • Does anyone want to buy two guitars cheap ? before i throw them on the fire and take up knitting.

  • haah ;)

  • @ggrahamm17 yes i do

  • @ggrahamm17 What will yo do when you find video of Tommy knitting?

  • @ggrahamm17 lolz...prolly me

  • @ggrahamm17 I would not advice you taking up knitting. I've heard that Tommy has just won the Nobel prize for knitting.

  • @ggrahamm17 Yeah till you see my Grandma knit a full jumper in two nights and that theory goes out as well.

  • every song he plays he looks like hes just having the best time of his life.

  • whenever i watch one of his videos, i always find myself just smiling and just feeling great. keep rocking tommy!

  • I know man.... When I want to get inspired I always watch one of his videos.

    He´s the best!

  • Absolutely INCREDIBLE! I have been playing guitar for 40 years, and just now found this guy! Tommy you are amazing!! thanks for the lessons in Up Close. I'm miles and miles and miles behind ya, but just trying to follow at least 1 footstep.

    Don't Stop!!!!

  • Normally i dont like the music of Elvis. But this just MAKES me like it.

  • The music of Elvis???? R Rodgers wrote this song one or two years before Presley was born.

  • But he didnt made it as great as elvis did

  • i love the way he plays two parts to all his songs.

  • Piano you have 2 hands, guitar you have 3 (left hand, right hand thumb and right hand fingers)

  • @ex0ja

    that make no sense

  • Beautiful, rhythmical product. Bravo!

  • This was filmed at the Sheldon Concert Hall in St. Louis (not sure what year). The acoustics in that hall are amazing!, but Tommy sounds great wherever he plays. I got tickets to his show on October 8th and can't wait. Does anyone know if Tommy signs Martin guitars or just people with Matons?

  • he signs all guitars he signed mines too

  • Hey men, this is the greatest acoustic guitarist and entertainer of all time! Surely Andy Mc Kee is a great, but I can't imagine one hour and half of concert with him only! What a bore! There's no match with Tommy....

  • If Keith sounds this, hey, who gives a rat's A , what he looks like.

  • I just don't know how can people ask: Who is tommy emmanuel?

Anyway. I can never get tired of this song.

Also, don't compare musicians. They are good in their own areas and leave them at that. =)

  • ur so rite, an theirs a very small population of tommy emanuel lovers in Ireland, its so cool, nearly no one knows him, BUT every one gets blown away by him.

  • @jysniper but how can you understand ia sked one guy in my vlass and he said well tommy ISNt so talented at all

  • There should be a genre called Emmanuel. He would be the only one in it anyways. =)

  • I rekon Smokin Joe Robinson might fit

  • It really should :)

  • Dont compare between tommy and andy..andy is till in the begning of the road and yes i like andy and i listen to his music but hard to leave tommy to hear another guitarist..even he is going to just talk and not gonna play,we still gonna watch lol

  • As talented as Andy is, I think he lacks the passion, emotion and FUN that Emmanuel puts into his playing. Although Andy does compose his own stuff it sounds a bit too technical to be music to me... I mean I do watch his videos in utter awe and admire his abilities as a guitarist, but they just don't compare imo.

  • I agree. Andy McKee is musical genius, but listening to his playing makes me mentally tired. Listenning to Tommy makes me refreshed and joyfull.

  • word, jysniper!

    thanks for the laugh :o)

  • @jysniper his brother might be hehe :) phil is every bit as good a guitarist as tommy is, both in terms of technique and body of work... he just hasn't done as much visible work, sticking instead to the underground blues and rock scene.

back home, tommy would play the bigger stadiums in town and phil would be playing down at the corner pub! love them both though - absolute legends!

  • @jysniper Phil?

  • @jysniper or his brother

  • @jysniper and chuck norris ofcourse

  • maybe you should write some more tags?

and this is at st. louis 2000

  • so-o-o-o wonderful !!!!

  • yes i agree. top acoustic player. such a gifted fella

  • your a king of the world!

  • What it means to play "off the beat" Dear God I love it.

  • No solo piano player, orchestra, horn section,or any musical instrument or musician can ever surpass "One Man 1 Acoustic Guitar playing solo fingerstyle",NOTHING inexsistance even come close,Nothing!!!!!

  • the god of acoustic....arguably...one of the best acoustic player in the world...

  • lol

  • He's the best...

  • His tiny clams are better than all my years of good guitar playing!

My take on this video is, he looks like he just felt like altering his fills, which didn't work out 100%. I must say, though, in great Tommy fashion, he showed us what an incredible guitarist he is by completing the song without missing a single beat, and maintained his usual unwaivering upbeat attitude.

  • 00:38 mistake? i love the guy i wondered if he ever made a mistake..... he's amazing

  • Not a mistake, just a quick jazzy grace note.

  • oooh i love how emmanuel plays the guitar! >.<

  • where the did u get this??? thanks for posting!!
