yeah I was at this show. A pregnant woman asked to hear Turn it On but Wayne applogized and played Oh My Pregnant Head...memories...seem so far away! First and only show they played without out much for stage lights, bubbles, x-mas lights, etc. See them 9 times since over 17 years span. Thank you for this this!!! There were a hundred people there..i dunno i was stoned
Also, Ronald made a very strange chirping noise into the microphone instead of the "testing testing" sound most people do. Michael wore sunglasses, a motorcycle jacket and a Spacemen 3 t-shirt. Occasionally someone in the audience would yell "Love yr Brain Wayne!" Most importantly... EVERYTHING was covered with X-mas lights, but this wasn't evident until the distortion kicked in on "Turn it On".
I had the pleasure of seeing them in a tiny club called "Call The Office" in London, Ontario, Canada. Their shows weren't as big budget then. I remember it being one of the loudest concerts I've been to and Ronald's guitar sounding more like a U.F.O. than a guitar. When they did a sound check, Wayne played along with The Cars (which was playing over the P.A. system)
this is on i believe a turn it on single or she dont use jelly... they made a bunch of different singles from the transmission era. this is on a 3 song single and its the only recording that was released of this song.
Actually, nimbusco, that's not true. The Lips' albums have always had plenty of studio tricks and extras -- backwards music, overdubs, piano, strings (the entire "Hit to Death in the Future Head" album in 92) -- that they couldn't reproduce live. The live shows were just always different -- meaning more raw, more spontaneous -- than the albums. Sadly, I think they've lost the spontaneity, edge, and dangerous quality that they once had.
Well, your both almost wrong. "Hear It Is" contains no overdubs or studio tricks whatsoever, everything from "Oh My Gawd!" till now has been edited to godliness by Michael and Dave.
Apparently the Lips in those days were of the opinion that they shouldn't record anything they can't play live. Then Ronald left, and they started messing around in the studio. When they realized they couldn't play it live, they said "F*** it! Let's put on a show!" And do they ever! Yet, this stuff is also great; wish I had seen them back in the day.
He's not "faking". There's an Alesis AirFX in the acoustic that he sometimes holds which makes weird noises when he places his hands over it. He chooses to be more of a front man and singer than a guitarist now. He's perfectly capable of playing the guitar, though.
THIS IS VERY VERY VERY GREAT!!! THANK GOODNESS FOR OLD FLIPS FOOTAGE!! IF YOU HAVE ANY YOU WOULD LIKE TO TRADE< WRITE TO ME AT PETSOUNDZ66@YAHOO.COM, I have a bunch of old shows!!! I would love to get this one!!!!
@theflaminglips are like the only band where the warping of a VHS tape actually Enhances the sound.

They were great. That's cool, Wayne was really playing guitar in shows at this time. Now, he's just faking to play. Funny.

It'd be awesome of all of the old fans contributed live bootlegs to a cd or something.
