While it was probably an attempted cross, it's a phenomenal goal and it's extremely difficult to even get a quality cross in from that position.

No he definetly didnt go for the goal. He just tried to cross it in and it happened by luck that he curled the ball. He also said in an interview back then that he didnt go for the goal. He said that he tried to cross it over but the ball was so close to going off the field that he couldn't manage anymore to kick it straight over and happened to curl it. This was also the first goal in history that has been scored like that.

Mathematically, it is possible to score like that but your chances of scoring are like winning a lottery. This was 99% luck and 1% skill. Not saying he is a bad player, he is one of the best, but if you would ask him to score that again, he is most likely not going to make it again. Also he hit the ball at the perfect spot. If the ball would have been a few cm further from where he hit it, he wouldnt score because than its impossible even mathematically. Math and physics proof that it was luck.
