natal- you are right, you cant give them a gap or they will distract you and pinch, they are desperate and very cunning pity we couldnt channel this into something positive.
Amazing how there are none around when a VIP is in town, 15 yrs after elections HEEELLOOOO, I try to help but its very difficult, take them to a place of safety and they run off.
If you don't want to give money to them, why not go to the Street Child World Cup in Durban in March 2010? You might see another side to these kids. Somebody needs to. SCWC is supported by David Beckham, Pele, and lots of other famous footballers, and it is something positive for these kids who have nothing. Thanks for your interest.
back in the early 90`s towns & cities on South Africa`s East Coast, street kidz were sniffing benzine... Now they tuning glue... Trust i knew allot of street kids back in early 90`s & they were always gettin` chased by cops. Now they even more dangerous - snatch and grabs, shootings, stabbings, highjackings ect... it` the freakin` wild west...
Why not offer to help out with the Street Child World Cup in march next year in Durban? A little bit of football in the wild west sounds like a god idea ... you could change something for these kids ...
did you go to Umthombo ? i went to Durban in Feb 09 with my school. some of the street kids and the people that work for Umthombo are in Scotland fund-raising right now, Durbz change my view on the world and really opened my eyes...
hope you had an amazing time, I know after going I want to go back and work in umthombo, hope ur fund-raising is going well!!
Yes, we went to Umthombo and as a result there will be a Street Kids World Cup next year in Durban. It's going to be a great event and a chance for the kids to get a better deal.
Yes, if you are saying it's almost impossible to help these kids, I agree. Almost, but not completely. I met several who'd got off the street, got a job & got a life. That happened because someone chose not to label them as a big bad group, but individual kids in a bad situation. Someone listened. Who cares about street kids? Each one has a name and a story. Take half an hour to ask one his/her name & story. Then come back here and tell me what happened. Thanks for your reaction.
Thank you for posting your videos about Umthombo. I was very lucky to tour/work with them for five weeks in 2006. I will never forget my experience or the children...the most beautiful children in the world.

They inhale glue to forget their pain. It's a drug. But it makes them very ill.
